Glen,
bending over whilst singing "Moon River" for a city gent, always brings a tear to my eye too. But I have found the pain is somewhat relieved by selling the same city gent half a loaf of bread that Martin has wiped round the Kings cross gents urinal. Once sealed in an airtight bag we have been able to increase our special service charge by £5 a head. We will be in H/B in no time at all!

1) ...The NPPL is basically giving the Div 1 teams no choice then to either fill their roster with pros or dispose. These teams supported the NPPL the last 2 years and telling them you are ranked as Am, but we are going to allow these pro players from other leagues come and rule your division. Teams from Div 2 last year that moved up, may not have had they known what was going to happen at the end of this season. These teams were ok to play Div 1 this year, but once you add in the teams that didn't make the pro cut (including Shock, Ironmen, Russians, Entourage etc) or may not use their Pro spot they don't have a chance in hell of making it to the top 4 on Sunday.

Let's look at this season. Take all those NXL teams and Entourage and place them in Division I, do you think Evil would of won the series? It would of been a very large task for them. Now look at Texas Storm, Justice, Future Ball, Wicked, etc all very capable Div 1 teams this season, now throw in those Pro teams and the division just got insanely more difficult. You've essentially made all those pros into ams, despite the level of play they have been at for 5+ years. So again the NPPL is not thinking about these Div 1 teams that supported the series the last 2 years, they are only thinking about that pro bracket.

2) I think it's going to take longer then a season or two for this all to be put straight. At the very least the NPPL should move 2-4 teams up and down each season.
1) Fair point, it would have been "nice" of the NPPL to take this into account, but honestly, anyone who didn't see this coming was not exactly blessed with 20/20 vision. As soon as the NPPL said that they would have an exclusive 18 team pro league, this was bound to happen. But I concede that it sucks for the guys that get the short end of the deal, but one way or the other somebody was gonna end up disappointed.

2) Agreed. In order to level the playing field a little faster, a somewhat larger number of teams may have to go through the relegation/promotion thing. If you go for 4 teams up, 4 teams down each season, in two years time you will have moved 8 teams. Year one would see off the Men, Bob's posse (yeehaw!) and such.

I still don't think the NPPL is doing a bad thing here.

True enough, B3, but I don't think you can cobble over the problems it's gonna raise quite so cavalierly.
I'm always cavalier. I look good in armor and on horseback. Have at you!:p

I'll be playing some events, yes.

That has nothing to do with it though. I understand all your sentiments, but I, as a player and with some other hats, have no big problem with it. It is the way foreward, and there will always be a few roadkills along the way... and it sucks if it happens to be you.

Question though. You guys played open X this year. Most events you faced off with Dynasty. How do you feel about those matches?

in what respect buddha?

the dallasty game we played in Dam was singularly the most learning of our sport that we have had all season! if we could have crashed heads with the SD boys all weekend we would have improved expotentially.

does this answer your question? or did you mean it another way?

I believe that the NPPL is holding a meeting for all team captains in HB soon (I am sure the details will be on nppl.tv).
If you want your say you may be better saying it there...

I understand that the final details on format and so on are to be discussed and the teams are to have thier say (those that can be there anyway). Would seem to indicate that they are a players league after all.

I know that there are plans in place to address the things yo0u are discussing, proimarily how the European events are going to fit into the whole scope. It all makes sense as far as I can tell.

So if captains contact the NPPL the NPPL will make arrangements to get the captains to the meeting, right? Awesome, ITN. Is there a limit--like you had to compete in x number of events or something? (Otherwise that could be hundreds of teams.) Did the NPPL lay the groundwork for this meeting by sending the captains an outline of the subjects to be discussed and some ideas on the future direction of the league? What's the procedure for the captains or the team reps to vote on various proposals?

Nah.

The Nppl isnt flying in the captains!!! Its a discrace!
I dont know about you guys but whenever Im called to any meeting, be it parents meeting in school or a buisness meeting. The part who calls for the meeting always arrange for me to get there!
I got a email with the issues that they want to discuss, so im semi prepered on those issues with the team. But I didnt get any info of the procedures regarding voting!!

And I think a voting system based on how many events the team played should be in order, like..

1 event = 1 vote
2 events = 2 votes
3 events = 3 votes
4 events = 4 votes
5 events = 5 votes

( i think you get my idea by now?)

Maybe we should look how the other legues are doing with the information meetings prior to the season? In the Millennium series we solved this issue by not having a meeting....

A very concered captain... ;)

That match was the best time I've had on the paintball field ever! Pound for pound it was the best value too. We got to play the best team in the world for 40 mins how can that not be good. The squad we have had this season have been like those Kids punch balls, they get punched down and then they spring straight back up at you again, ready for more.
I know where you are leading me with this and you are right, we have got to find the money from somewhere to carry on competing at that sort of level. America is where it’s at with out a doubt, and that’s where our sights are set.

I just wanted to point out that a series based in America, with three or four Euro legs to entice teams like us to play may not lead us all to compete in the complete series. Paintball is not "the field of dreams" and just because you build it doesn't mean they will come. Maybe I am wrong in thinking that was the plan.
Takedown I disagree with you that lower Div teams don't go to big events to play big name teams, true some teams are in it for the series others it may be their once a year shot at a bit of giant killing. But with out the accessible big teams present it is the event that ends up getting marginalized (nice phrase Baca) not the teams.
I know all the Pro teams will be at these events, and I understand the T.V reasoning behind this. But look at what has happened this year with the NXL the locked league bleachers were empty in contrast to the open, which was what everyone did watch.
