Excuse me but who is this Klinkerhoffen guy anyways??? You have one of the greatest reffing groups on the planet in Russell and his merry band of travaling referees. Why in the sam *ell isnt he in charge???Im sure with a bit of time and training Russell could turn this mess around for you and you could get back to playing paintball again.

I have reffed the Mayhem Masters on a number of occasions, and also Millennium and PSP events.

The rules and therefore refs simply need to employ common sense - if a player has not taken any further part in the game after being hit (other than to make his bunker), then a 141 should not be assessed.

Perhaps it is time for a rewrite?

And perhaps refs should ask themselves "how would I like a ref to behave towards me if I was playing?" before they step on the field.

I should point out, I don't have an axe to grind with Ulrich, as he has always been very pleasant with me.

And thanks for the props, Boog!

Can someone explain to me how on earth you can give a player a 141 penalty for an unobvious hit on a pod on their back?

If I breakout and run towards my bunker there is no way I can tell that I have been hit in the pack/pods.

Millenium series

After comming back from NXL and watching the reffing there I have to say that we are actuelly behind the yanks for the first time ever regarding reffing.

Millennium now days are No run thrus, No long breaks and No creative/crazy/ moves at all. Its scary but as a team we have adapted to the reffs and not the other way around. My playes have orders to call for paintcheck whenever they move and I mean during there move and never try to run down players as that will mosty result in a 1-4-1

Waching the NXL and the reffs there opened my eyes of how it should be, players make the moves and whenever a reff feels that the player tried to cheat he got a penalty. Reffs didnt access 1-4-1 when players didnt cheat but never failed to give them a penalty when they did.

Nowdays in the Millennium its not a team vs team thing, most games and especially the important games are who ever the reffs going to give the penalty to first. How many games this year have been decided by the reffs?
And as I have voiced many times to the reffing squad, when its overtime or 4-4 try not to decide the game by giving penaltys but try to call players out asap. In any other sport the bar is raised in overtime, in millennium paintball we have far to many reffs that personally want to decide the game.

Look at the NXL reffs and learn.

Mag, the irony is, we don't have to look toward the NXL, the Millennium guys can look toward their own customer base, or maybe even look toward commonsense (same thing really) but they elect not to ....we know who they choose to look toward to inspire their rules and adjudicating ethos ......and when we realise who it is they look toward, is it any surprise we are in the sh!thouse we now find ourselves in?

II should point out, I don't have an axe to grind with Ulrich, as he has always been very pleasant with me.
One swallow don't make no spring Jon, and would that his attitude and demeanour be the same with everyone as it is with you but I'm afraid his shortfalls only seem to flourish when he begins to bristle with power ...during problems that erupt or demands that he is making.

Every organisation that deals with the public will have problems, it is the nature of the beast I'm afraid and paintball tournaments are not immune from this, far from it in fact, it's an extremely sensitive area due to the nature of our sport.
We pay a lot of money and there is an expectation, or rather a duty of care from the organizers for them to treat us fairly and courteously even though during some heated on-field discussions, things are getting agitated.

It is the mark of a company how they deal with this and the strategy seems simple, they default to using a guy who they know full well has been rude, intransigent and pisses far too many people off...and so why keep him?
Any self-respecting business people would have told him to fcuken hoffen years ago, if they are scared to do it, I'll facking tell him.

The reason they persist is two fold, they feel they can't get anybody else to do the logistical side of his job and secondly, they are insulated because he tends to keep certain problems at arm's length..he is their thick skin.

Problem is...this is achieved at a cost, and that cost is the way the customers are treated, and at the moment, the Millennium board feel this is a cost worth paying.
This is the bottom line Jon .....make no mistake about that !

Expecting teams to front multiple thousands of euros so soon after xmas etc is unreasonable.
How about BEFORE xmas ?

Insane !

Anyway - just returning from Cup I must admit that Millennium in total is really not that far off, yes World Cup was bigger and the NXL refs (and those only!) were in general a bit better than CPL - but that was basically it ! NO the reffing in general is NOT better in the PSP compared to Millennium, hell no - besides the NXL it really is poor poor poor standards! The entry fees on the other hand are still insanely pricey: For instance USD 1600 to play regular 5-man is expensive in my mind at least ?

That being said OF COURSE Millennium not only have to but NEED to change.... I honestly think (or hope?) most teams will not stand for the standards they´ve been given this season for much longer?

Most venues this year was crappy, honestly, they´ve left a LOT of players not only wanting but expecting more - we spend a lot of time and money playing this series ! Malaga seemed great to many people because it was on the beach and the sun was shining - but the layout AND the fascilities were CRAP, really ! London ? Toulouse ? Nürbürgring ? Pffffft !

Paris this year was good, true, really good actually - a step up from last year without a doubt. But the rest of them ? In my oppinion a poor follow up from prior seasons.

What do we need then ?

- a different reffing system: As a lot of people have pointed out here, it does NOT work having teams reffing and especially not teams from a locked division picking up points for reffing, unbelievable !

Sollution: I have an idea of making EVERY team in SPL or div. 1 (if continiously locked?) bringing ONE extra player to each event, that player having to ref - that makes a total of 32-35 (whatever the limit will be?) refs available at the event. NOT getting any points but that simply being part of the licence agreement !! So basically every player rostered to either an SPL or div. 1 team (whatever works best, no idea yet?) have to ref one event a year - that really is NOT a lot - and that means every team needs to field a total of 5 refs per. season and not as now 8 players for the event they are reffing ! It is EASIER on the teams AND you will see no full teams reffing thus no biased fields !

- better venues: This year has been POOR ! Look towards venues that has airport close by, hotels and restaurants close by, and that all at reasonable rates ! STOP picking places that really does not work either "layoutwise" or geographically!

- better checking of players and their ranking/IDs ! WHY the hell do we pay so much money for these player IDs, demanded by the millennium, just to find a LOT of players in fact cheating the system (know this for a fact - know of a lot of european teams doing this, you might be on that list yourself!!) ?

- knowing events, venues, dates BEFORE needing to pay the entry fees !!!!!!!!

Think that is it for me for now hehe - but more might be added to the list !;)
