The last Mayhem held in the UK before it moved to Holland was held on an open park and other than the wind it was ok all safely netted etc..the trade presence was a little poor but that you can't plan for that. Campaign did have larger trade stands but with um how shall we say this....interesting prices. but that gripe aside CP is a good venue but due to the scale of fields required and layout needed it is too small. Driving to CP is a nightmare, if you look on a map it looks great but the approaches are awful, once you arrive at the venue the carparking etc is very good but by the time you eventually get there a gravel track would look good. Hotels are far from cheap in that area and nightlife is non existant unless a boozer (apposed to a bar...there is a difference) is all you want. But do remember this is England not Toulouse or Miami or Orlando so after event stuff is never gonna be great. Costs for using an out of London sports areana would be way lower than using CP and the layout would be simple as most all local authority sports fields have adjacent football fields so plenty of room. In my local area there are around 3 perfect venues like this that would fall over themselves for the money that would come their way...rooms and nightlife all on the doorstep of the venues and only an hour from Gatwick hour and a half from Heathrow.

Very true. I went on the sunday to watch the finals with my family, and the trip there was not one of our better family-car experiences! What we saw when we got there more than made up for it, though. It was the first major tournament I'd been too and it was certainly impressive.

As for the location, I think that a rugby club (if suitably advertised) could attract more spectators on the basis of the easier access (see above). I've been to a couple of M25 events thanks to transport from my dad, mainly on the basis that they were just off the M25! The drive to crystal palace took a fair bit more convincing.

Lastly, what about school fields?:D I bet you'd generate one helluva lot of interest amongst the 11-18 year olds if you set yourself up on some school's rugby fields. I'm just me being wishful though, so feel free to ignore this particular point.

South East Essex, In my town they have a huge sports complex with more than enough space for cars and the event....25mins away but closer to the M25...only 2 turns to make if travelling along that route there is a running track with stands etc and surrounded by flat fields and just off the M25 junction you have at least another 2 venues whilst they don't have the stands they have the space and the carparking. To keep things in context due to the costs moving the Campaign Cup north would be a wrong move plus the links from an airport piont of view from overseas players would hike those costs quite a lot. Niall will have been looking at other places that tick the boxes that he feels the event requires...remember this isn't a democracy in that respect as it is the checklist Niall has that needs to be addressed...not what we want....now I would like a whole list of things but they will never happen...the biggest problem I have with the Campaign Cup is the dates, as they conicide with mainland european holidays not english ones and to not work friday/saturday is a pain for me personally...especially for a domestic tournament...overseas I don't have that issue as I will go for a longer period than the event itself.

This years campaign was my first millenium event, agreed travelling to the event was a nightmare (oh dear how sad, never mind). But the atmosphere more than made up for it, i personally would love to see a site laid out in a horse shoe manner, i havn't got a problem trekking to the different fields, but i do feel that this gives a disjointed feel to the event.

Having all the fields accesable within a minutes walk would ease delays as well as allowing teams and spectators to move easily along the fields watching how all of them play.

Oh and you cant have the event ooop north cos you've already got way to many paintball related things there! give something to us southerners!

Right for a start do most of you even know what esher rugby club looks like,or how much Campaogn cup cost to put on,i doubt it.Esher rugby club is a ****e hole i live 2mins away and it is run down and the only reason they are letting us go there is because they need the money(ummmm says it all).As for having it up north for instance, is it such a problem getting people up ther to set up,come on ,their hotels are paid for down here whats the difference!!!!

As for costs for other teams travelling from where ever ,if a tourney is where it is and you want to go then you go.If it is worth while then whats the problem!!!!

Maybe it will be alright, but you know paintball is so expensive why cant we have the best!!!

fair points Jamie

And again it's Niall and the commitees decision, i would still travel north without a second thought. Is the rugby club that bad!!?? i'd rather a disjointed tourny than scallies nicking kit and playing in a **** area (tho i cant see how Niall would allow this)

i have played rugby at esher many times over the last 15 years, and the ground is open and flat. Ideal! There is a large grandstand on one side of the pits that is a similar size to the one in toulouse. The main pitch could hold 2/3 fields possibly even 4 as it is a large rugby pitch.

Its not as if Niall will have chosen a loction unless he thought it was a great venue for an event.
