max you would look at is £5k surely for a bigger place, that gives £25k for luxuries:D
Building a venue like the NPPL does has it's drawbacks, mostly in the upfront costs for netting, poles, cables, fencing, heavy equipment, portajohns  and so on. Plus you need some experienced people to build the site (labor). It's not as cheap as you might think.

Of course, if you have another tournament series that already has those things (M25?) it's not so bad.

And Nick - it seems there's always a couple of piles that get missed in those cow pastures. Usually next to a bunker I have to play :D :D :D

But you're right about advertising. "If you build it, they will come" only works if 'they' know you've built it. :p

A few little cost factors you may want to consider.

The costs of having Campaign at Crystal Palace weren't all incurred by hiring the place, they were also from the massive set-up, take-down and during-the-event staffing costs. How many of you have any idea of what it takes to just get the netting up and down for a Millennium event? Or how many people it takes to get a place spotless after a tournament (all of whom want paying)? The "cow pasture" scenario doesn't have acres of surfaces that need to be cleaned, you can just let the rain wash any paint away. And you can take a couple of weeks to build the venue and take it down afterwards, not be restricted to a week or less either side 'cause they need the site for something else.
Also, Niall's organisation is based in Surrey so all his staff live around that area. To move the CC to a more northern venue would mean he would have to pay travel and hotel bills for these staff, approximately doubling his staff costs.

For those who are advocating a different sports arena for CC, you are going to get the same problems they had at Crystal Palace with the majority of them. You have a large stadium area able to accomodate 3-4 fields max (depending on the stadium & field sizes), then you have to go outside the main area for all the other fields. Then you have to find somewhere with staging for the teams - you try finding a venue with enough indoor staging for 160 teams, all within a couple of minutes walk from the fields! Car parking is another issue, as most of the non-international arenas can't park 5-600 cars nearby. If I use Ashford as an example, that was a superb tournament held in an international sports arena BUT, there were only 36 teams and I doubt that the venue could have catered for double that, let alone 4 times the number. Yes, there may be a few around (e.g. Gateshead?) that could fit the bill as well as Crystal Palace did (though probably no better), but after the comments about the distance people has to walk to some of the fields who can blame Niall for trying something different?

And no, I know very few ballers who would be happy to take full Millennium kit plus all their other stuff on a train!

There were pubs?!?!?
Ok, firstly I do agree that Crystal Palace was a pretty good venue with the fact that it is a well-recognised sporting arena. However, what is the point of having a well-recognised arena if the lack of advertising means that the public don't know there's even an event on?? I agree with the fact that the stands were waaaay to big for the size of the crowd that attended, and I think that moving it to Esher rugby club could, if done well (which I have no doubt that Niall will pull this off!) be a really good move. In terms of accessibility, it's not really that much different to Crystal Palace. OK, so CP was outer London, but when you look at trying to get into the centre, eg Leicester Square, Covent Garden, it's not that much harder to get there from Esher as it is from CP, perhaps even easier in terms of trains etc...
However, I do like the idea of moving it up north.... Come on Old trafford ;) :D :D

'in ya face baby!'
as Sam stated the best tournaments i have played this year were built from scratch on an open field setup! Amsterdam was a great example of this, it was in my opinion the best laid out event in Europe this season. every field was next to the players areas and the air, and the fileds were all a consistant size.

if we did a similiar job to Laurent, and get the press, businesses, radio, local TV (at least) posters everywhere then there is no reason why people wont come an see what is going on. it just needs a promotions team to run with it with a budget to spend, although most of the time publicity costs bugger all!

one thing is right tho CP was way too small (fields were tiny! except 1 & 2) and they were too far from staging area and air. moving it is the way forward, and Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted are the airports 99% of overseas players will be flying to! so it needs to be in that catchment area.

IN NIALL SQUIRE WE TRUST

Rest assured that Niall knows what he is doing.

He wouldn't choose a venue without researching it, I'm sure no one knows how much leg time he has spent so far going out to different venues and researching local areas and talking to hotels.

I know he will give you all the type of tournment you are accustomed to.

Geez, the tournament is eons from now. . .

if a site was built, then security would be far easier, and being out of the CP area would mean less Pikeys to break in and steal my stuff!:(

In Miami they had like 30 security guards patrolling the players area, and general site, which was surrounded totally by 10 foot highmetal fences, wityh only one way in. No band, no entry. Security was very good.

How about ..........

holding the Campaign Cup in another stadium (in London).

ie. QPR, Its very central, parking may be a problem, not sure as I've never looked at it in that way.

But I do know its not as big as CP so atmosphere wouldnt be lost thats for sure. They also have astro turf pitches aswel.

Mite be Ideal, mite not be, worth looking into though.

the thing about centarl london sadiums, and stadiums all over the country in fact, is that while they are enclosed and good for 2 fields in the main arena, the other 7 fields have to be located a long way from the players area, and results in little atmosphere.
