I doubt he has, but thats not the point. I dont think he was discounting it on the grounds that it was not a valid venue, he was ending a pointless discussion because the venues for the next 2 years have already been chosen.

dudes, i'm still online

No I've never been to Don Valley, but we won't be holding Campaign Cup there, i'll bet good money on that.

Campaign Cup will be held close to London, inside the M25 if possible, and relativly close to Campaign if at all possible.

There was some brief discussion about holding it up north in Manchester, but due to the fact that the staff that run the Campaign Cup are located in Surrey (for the most part), we aim to hold it in in Surrey, near Campaign.

Nothing has been signed for a venue yet, but a short list has been drawn up. The critical factors for the Campaign Cup are:
In London (for international draw)
closer to Campaign and the Staff, to aid in setup.
Close to Heathrow and easy access from Gatwick (and M25)
In an Open space type environment to accomodate the 8 fields that we're going to have to set up.

Places that are out are major parks, due to the lack of security and the cost of insurance, and major stadium venues like Crystal Palace which are too small to hold an 8 field event. (I never thought i would be saying Crystal Palace was too small! but it just is)

No we're not holding the event out side london, not up north, so even though i've never been lucky enough to travel to Don Valley (actually i've been to Don Valley in Toronto, Canada, but that's another story) we're holding Campaign Cup somewhere in Surrey, near Camapign if at all Possible.

Once the whole X-ball / Super Pro thing settles down a bit we'll finalise the Campaign Cup details and let you all know.
:D

Looking in from the outside, i was at Crystal Palace, and WOW!!!!, what an event. To me the only pain was the fact that the fields were thrown all over the place. I understand the space requirements and logistics of putting an event on of this size, but as a spectator you need to be able to get to each field easily and as the games are quite short you need to be able to move to different fields quickly, to catch the action. I missed about 75% of the games because they were so far away from each other, there was no point moving away from the centre arena.
It has been mentioned that other events have all the fields next to each other in a "U" shape, with the players and sensitive areas inside the "U", away from spectators. This would mean that arena areas would be unsuitable, as they would be too small, why do we need arenas? Look at Glastonbury, biggest music festival in Britain, a stage and a hill.
Let's look for an area that will house all the playing fields in a "u" or "O" shape with the players inside, and erect stands around this. Put the trade stands around the spectators, or at one end, and this self contained area has everything. Look at the layout of stadiums, the spectators surround the playing field, we just have a large number of playing fields, but of uniform size.
Paintball is moving fast people, and we need to move faster, we are part of the ultimate sport, at least it will be if the passion of the tourney player has anything to do with it.

Tom.

EDIT..... Just a little bit to add, spectators need to have it easy, need things to be simple to understand. Just look at American Football, people don't watch it because they don't understand it, even though it's simple. It's not as simple as our football, and that's why it's overlooked, by so many people. If we don't make things easy for the public they will give it a miss, and once that happens you will never promote the sport.

OK So Esher RFC is looking like the most likely venue for CC 2K4. It is close to Heathrow airport, and the Clubs 23 acres of green fields means its certainly big enough. Only one concern tho... There are going to be major roadworks on M25 in that area for the next year or so...:(
