If PGI could cut Robbo's wages then they could afford that....;)

Would politics get in the way as it always seems to do?

Question is...

What's the motivation for a European company to sponsor a team where the broadcast is in the US? Even assuming you find a ocmpany that would benefit from such a thing, finding a department within that company with European budget that would benefit from US advertising would probably be more tricky.

If only companies like Sony, Pepsi, Coca Cola, Ford, Panasonic, EriKKson and Vauxhall had distributors all over the world.........hang on......THEY DO!

Is it inconcevable that a company like Sony or Ford could sponsor a Ueropean team or two, say Ton Ton or Joy and have then reap the benefits of US coverage on TV?

And we do get US tv here in the UK, hell half the shows here are form the States...Friends....etc...:)

Inconceivable? No... but likely?

The problem you have to overcome is that while the corporations are international, the advertising budgets are not - the guy in Britain in control of the advertising dollars there is supposed to drive sales in BRITAIN. For example, the major beverage companies (Pepsi/coke/etc.) do the VAST majority of their sponsorship through local distributors - what's the incentive for the distributor to sell more product in the US? It's the US distributors that benefit from more coke sold in the US, not the British one - in fact, from the british distributor's perspective, selling more coke in the US is counterproductive.

If you want the top-level corporate structure to sponsor you, you better be a Williams sister or something.

Rich, I doubt PGI and Planet could allot that sort of monies to such an enterprise and Draxxus and SP would be kinda difficult for us as we are shooting RP Scherer and E-Blade Cockers with Dye Barrels and would not want to change.

The scale of things this side of the pond mate has yet to evolve to anything like Stateside's.

If we had the money, I have got enough friends over there to give us a fighting chance of getting in but even then, it ain't a done deal and with so much money sloshing around there now, it would be hard for them to help me out too much.

Ya know Rich, the more I hear about what you guys have achieved in securing this TV deal, the more embittered I feel toward our guys for denying us Euros the chance to join you.

Still, I am sure we will all be very happy playing on green Millennium fields while you guys play on the silver screen

Oh and Rich, E-Mail on its way with contact number of our mutual friend (Vits).....

I think that I'm lucky that I came on the scene before all the decisions were made for X Ball in Millennium, Season 3003. Because I did, and I just have to try with all my might to make the best of what we got, I don't have to deal with that poison called bitterness.

If a mutually beneficial official relationship doesn't get established between the NXL and EXL, that almost guarantees Euros up to bat against Americans at every event, then we just have to do our own thing here.

We gotta get X Ball fields all over the place sose we can practice hard and often and train ourselves like the most wacko extremists hellbent on destroying the world. We need small tournaments frequently. All the best teams gotta get in each others faces often.

If we need to we can set up practices and series with only 10-minute halves to cut down the paint costs until the sponsorships get better. We can cut some things here and there and still keep it authentic X Ball.

And, if we have to, we have to frekkin' bribe the Yanks to come over and play against us.

And as far as the beat-to-death debate about why THEY (my fellow countrymen) dominate paintball:

1. They play, practice, compete and live PB 24-7-365. We gotta find a way to do the same.

2. They are turned-loose. They are balls-to-the-walls, they roll-the-dice. For obvious historical-cultural reasons we are risk-takers. We gotta set our minds free so that our asses'll follow. THIS IS THE MAIN THING! We (Europeans) got most of the technical skills and all the technical advantages; now we gotta get the mental.

Let's think positively and take some affirmative action. Let's don't get hung up about alleged frigged-up decisions in the past. Monday morning quarterbacking is always too easy.

Let's get our own sport, practice, sponsorship, media thing going. Paintball and Europe as a much more unified single market are both set to go off tha hook! I believe the atmosphere is charged with great possibilites.

I believe in the tooth fairy.

:p

But Steve's right - we are where we are and nothing's going to change that, so European players need to make a concerted effort to forge our own path - whether that's with X or 7-Man, with Millennium or a worldwide Super7s, is the next question.

Hey, EPA guys - why not poll your members and see what they want?

(I know - it blows your mind..... you being american and all).

So - when contacting Heineken, Carlsberg, Shell, British Airways, Lufthansa, SAS, Maersk, Philips, Siemens, Daimler-Chrysler, Deutche Telekom, Fiat, BMW, Volkswagen, Olivetti, BP, IKEA, Ericsson, Nokia, Bosch, Cadbury Schweppes, Credit Lyonnais, Danish Crown, France Telecom, Hilton Groupe, KLM, Adidas, P & O, Pirelly, Renault, Tetra Laval, Unilever, Vivendi, Vodafone, etc., etc., etc. - You are not necessarily talking to just a local distributor !
