My word some people are getting their knickers in a twist.

The reason the bill regarding immitation firearms was due to the very real problems of people taking an immitation firearm waving it around, upsetting members of the public and then getting shot by a very real MP5 pointed at them by a police officer. It is also as a direct result of the increase in the use of immitation firearms in violent offences, whilst the use of real firearms is actually declining. If you were an armed police officer would you take the risk if someone was pointing a bb gun that looked like a glock 9mm from 15 meters away.

The likelihood of paintball being banned as a direct or even indirect result of this legislation is minimal. Unless of course markers become more readily available and get sold to muppets who don't know what they are doing.

The comment matski made about a guy with a table leg getting shot also demonstrates the complete and utter rubbish that is reported on the TV and in the newspapers. If half the stuff that happened was actually reported in that case you would all be up in arms over the treatment of the officers involved.

If you don't want paintball to get banned start helping people like Bully professionalise your approach to government and sporting bodies.
Markers are now being sold one channel up from QVC on sky television......... the max channel...... sells action replay, x-box and now markers, also available on play.com. No control whatsoever. Dont even have to buy a mask. As for the shooting incident......... fill us in if you have inside info, but as far as I know, a slightly drunk man was shot because he wouldn't put his hands up and was carrying a shotgun which turned out to be a chair leg in a carrier bag. Couldn't raise his arms due to recent surgery.

As for the whole first paragraph........... how many people have been gunned down carrying replicas? I'm sure I'd have noticed that becoming a "problem". And no risk of paintball getting included in this, nah, not in England.
As they wouldn't do something like that.

Eggs.
Beef.
Handguns.
"dangerous" dogs.
Martial arts weapons.
References to martial arts weapons in TV or film.

etc..... all of these have at some point been either banned or draconianally controlled by the UK government within the last 15 years.

Never happen to us though will it?

So, don't worry, see you on the golf course in a year or so.

eeerrrrmmm well what about the hundreds of websites that sell markers (no age verification needed, no face to face sale)? and the shops? Warped, Planet, Phoenix, NPF all supply markers: yes im sure they would have the morals to say "no please take away your £700 I dont think your an experienced enough player to own a G7"

and now even shopping channels

How about laws against threatening people!? And perhaps laws about keeping the old paintball gun inside a bag or case while not at a site or your home?

If I point a bottle at someone from inside a baggy sweatshirt, I might be able to rob them with that. The problem is using a weapon-like thing in a threatening manner. The lawmakers could approach this more intelligently.

No Rosie; table legs are definately more dangerous than kids. Tie up the table legs and paint the kids orange instead.

Im glad you saw that my suggestion of painting table legs orange was a completely unworkable solution to the problem, I must have missed it, thank god you are here or I would have had no idea....

You are having a laugh aren't you? Suggesting that the lawmakers in the UK do something intellegently rather than rushing through a piece of legislation that can't work properly in a knee-jerk reaction to a report in a couple of newspapers  .
It's one of the traditions here that "safety" legislation must be rushed through in such a manner that there's been no chance for the majority of the implications to be investigated - Dangerous Dogs Act anyone? That way the people in power are seen to be "doing something" about the perceived problem - the fact that what they are doing is, often enough, worse than the original problem has nothing to do with it.

Knee jerks are a tradition we have come accustomed to in the UK over the last few recent government administrations. Unfortunately, a group of law abiding individuals are robbed of their interest due to heavy handed, ill-thought out legislation, all due to the actions of a very small minority.

Measures that may help us keep ourselves outside the spotlight could be implemented, self regulation is much easier than imposed as it will be created by those that know what they are talking about.

Obviously rec/scenario players are maybe going to have to lose their authentic looking markers and revert to something more mainstream in paintball terms, shame of course but we must try to protect what freedoms we have left.

The other thing that may be useful would be for shops/site operators not filling the bottles of spotty teenagers for use outside of a proper facility, hopefully would help stem the amount of drive by paintball incidents that are on the increase in the UK. I understand the need for people to be able to test/repair their markers away from a site, but it may be a small price to pay.

Lobbying your MP I still feel is a big no-no. Dont draw attention where it is not needed, or some peoples lively hoods could be wiped out overnight. Or we may all be required to get an ownership certificate, which for some of us who in the past may have had an incident involving the police, may be refused.
e.g. Shotgun owners may be refused a licence because 10 yrs ago they got done for possesion of marajauna if the Chief Constable sees fit. Might be a problem for certain people in our community!!!

That's one of the points I was hoping to raise- do we just abandon the scenario/milsim types or do we view them a paintballers just like the rest of us and defend their rights to play the game the way they like. There was a time we all dressed like that and had black guns, now the people who've opted for pink anno and playing in £90 plastic pyjamas are saying "ditch them, they're not part of the sport". Short memories:rolleyes:
