But surely it's just an academic point, the 1st shot being a few fps over if the marker has been left sitting around for a while is no major biggy..especially when you consider that on the 10sec call players often fire off several shots.

What should worry folks more is that dwell ramp and breakout mode are now being set hand in hand, and teams are willing to use it. A bunch of players breaking out shooting excess of 15bps at higher dwell, hitting their barricades and returning to normal is a potentially major problem for safety let alone fairness.

Completely agree it's academic against the "major" cheats, but it's still there, and still condoned by the industry.

What if a guy makes the 50 and posts for them to make the snake, guy dives in and goggles come lose, the posted player shoots extra few fps enough to dislodge them. It's all hypothetical and semantics, but still doesn't change the fact that many guns come factory set to shoot 10fps or more higher on their first shot. Kind of a people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones to me.

Anyway, that's getting off the point, back to your usual thread...

p.s. does the Millennium have a scrutineer? does he/she keep up with the latest publicly available boards, let alone the under-the-table jobs? Was anyone caught with a THump at CC?

A correctly working spool valve marker (except a shocker with the stock bolt) shouldn't be able to ramp velocity by varying the dwell. The dump should dump when the valve opens, and after that it shouldn't matter how long it's held open because no more air should be expelled.

Well, that's the theory.

Oh, and I'd have throught the more usual culprit of hot first shots would be a creeping reg - it only takes a tiny speck of dirt in the seat (or just a crap reg to start with) and the pressure will slowly climb while it's not being shot. That's why you're normally allowed clearing shots before the chrono check onto the field.

But that assumes that all the air is dispelled in it's "legal" state, then there isn't any more to pass out. But wouldn't it work that by having an artificially short dwell in it's legal state, it could hold some in reserve? then when the ramping kicks in, increased dwell means increased air and FPS?.

I don't know tons about spool valves though.

With the reg spike - don't see why anything should be allowed as clearing shots. Over 300fps is over, job done and get a working gun. There are too many rules that make excuses for players, perhaps its time people take more responsibility for their equipment and actions.

Wouldn't it then be a little more sensible to lower the allowed FPS limit to say 280? Then cheats will become harshly more obvious.

In my opinion, this will also negate some of the efects of over-ramping too, allowing the game to open up a little more.

What y'all think?

The Ton Ton shocker board has something called ADOC, automatic drop off control.

I have never used a Ton Ton board but ADOC suggest to me that it increases the dwell when you are shooting fast, to 'combat drop off'.

Where I come from we call that velocity ramping!!!

Also I always thought FSDO can be caused by stiction inside your solenoid and other related parts.
(we actually tested this to some degree by running solenoids at different voltages and usually at the recommended voltage you do get a shorter open time on the first shot)

I dont think it would work as with matrixes your velocity would be jumping too badly if your dewll is set too low. Besides you wouldnt get with it on the field as choro refs usually shoot a burst on the chrono. Btw if your matrix bolt is working properly you cant up the fps with abs and also shooting fast with abs wouldnt work as the dwell would be too long.

Gun like timmys, angels and so on (guns with ram and valve) are a different story.
