Mak mate I do believe that three day event she is reffering to is a horse riding event. Dont know if you ride or if you saw the X country course on the Olympics the other day but take a tumble on one of those jumps and your likely to give yourself a fairly major bashing (potentially the understament of the year).

Now I've got a fairly basic understanding of reproductive biology and I am awear that the human feotus is provided quite a large amount of protection so sure continue doing those sports you love to do.

Riding - Liz
Skiing - Camsmith
Aerobics, trampolining etc - Gups

Thats cool all supposed to be INDIVIDUAL, NON CONTACT sports when done correctly where you dictate the level of exertion that your comfortable with and if (God forbid) something does go
wrong the only person responsible is you.

Paintball is a team sport that lets face it does involve contact no matter how we try to avoid it and where the level of exertion/contact is at least partially dictated by the opposition.

Personally I'd be happy taking the field against a pregnant woman who was say a couple of months as long as she was wearing hard body armour - to my mind a layer of neoprene isnt enough.

Anymore than say 2 or 3 months and I wouldnt feel comfortable
playing for fear of me doing something wrong.

my 2p worth.

Ive had the boredom of studying alot of law, waivers aint worth **** in injury/death cases. The shooter would almost certainly be indited for a manslaughter trial by whichever judge overlooked X amount of people getting sued over it...You'd only have to show that not enough was done to stop her playing and getting harmed, if she wanted to accept the risks or not is irrelevant as people responsible for safety would have failed....and if you think about it, everyplayer is responsible for some degree of safety at a pball event....Youd all be royally ****ed imo....I for sure would refuse to judge or play on a field with a pregnant woman. No organisers should believe their crappy sentence long disclaimer will protect them!..

I have yet to see where being shot at currently causes internal bruising. Sure, being lit up leaves a few marks, but they barely go more than skin deep. I think this is why Gups was asking if it's OK to wear padding.

I have yet to see full contact paintball being played anywhere... Maybe that's what we need to get the spectators! ;)

the point is, we dont know if it would cause internal bruising. There have been no studies to say that paintball doesn't cause internal bruising. Hell we may be damaging our bodies in unseen ways which we don't know about...

And after seeing some shots this weekend at STB man, your a joker to play when preggers...

Gups i'm pretty sure there is body protection, which can be adapted to protect a persons size, even if it does change.

1-3 months is the most likely period of a miss-carriage so I doubt its a good idea if you was to take a blasting to the stomach area, but I find this pretty un-likely as the top half/bottom half of a persons body is more likely to be shot.

It solely depends on the person really.

I doubt a paintball would cause any trauma to a foetus at 1-3 months but as I said before it is more likely a miss-carriage in this time period and that could lead to the person or other people, blaming pball for it.

My rec-site boss lady marshalled for a few months pregnant, apparently she got asked if there was any domestic violence going at hospital checkups. As far as I know she stopped once it got to the stage where she couldn't keep up with the games anymore! Her kid loves paintball, by the way.

On the issue of protection, I would say that a hard layer (with soft padding under to spread shock) would be fine, just like any other portection should be. As for playing against a pregnant lady, I really can't say what my reaction would be. Like others, I really wouldn't want to live with the thought of causing a miscarriage.

P.S Gups: Great topic, bit of an eye-opener too.

Discuss!!
Ya know Gups, and with no disresepct intended, I don't think your final comment regarding 'medical guidlines' is at all appropriate and is also miselading.
Firstly, whether or not a woman plays whilst she is pregnant is a decsion that should be made by her and her physician, each case would be different and there could be no general allowances.
Secondly, just because a woman plays any sport whilst she is not pregnant does't and can't automatically allow her to play when she is, it's not as easy as that.
Paintball has many situations that can strain and pull muscles, including stomach and pelvic regions.
This not a good area to put under stress whilst pregnant, no matter how progressed the pregnancy is.
I have no idea what clinical conditions could erupt with a muliple shot to a confined area but I know one thing, why take the chance?
Now if my wife was pregnant, and I knew what playing paintball would be like, I think I might be surprised if she wanted to carry on !
Peace

(Bites lip hard)Protection in the first place might have prevented this padding problem now...;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Just kidding. I like the youngest olympic winning baby fact.
Could you play at the back and make sure your team always wins?
Work on your tan?
Wear a few extra tops?
Some bubble wrap?
