Dynasty is not headed for the NXL under the Miami Effect flag. There have been no serious discussions about the switch. Has it been brought up? Sure but nothing serious has coming of anything. There are too many things for us to give up. Our name, our control just too many things. It sucks that Div 1 is falling apart.
This means that we will probably play 3 games all season at Div 1 events.

Hmmm

And Cow, peloton schmeleton - mountain biking gets a lot more coverage than the roadies do
I guess that depends on the country.... In Denmark we get full live coverage - on the biggest tv channel - of Tour De France, Giro d'Italia, Vuelta Espana and all the World Cup races...... and I think it's the same in any country that has a top cycling team, like Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, Swizerland and so on..... But then cycling as a sport has never really been part of British culture, apart from a few scotsmen and irishmen that did really well (oh - and Sean Yates and Chris Boardman) ;)

But I digress :D

Yes there is. Why oh why do you think they tell their camera crews to focus on cars X and Y, rather than number one? Because X and Y is where the potential for drama is. I don't think you understood what I was getting at.

As for your BTW, any game is more fun to watch in real life, even football. All that instant replay hoopla you also get in the stadium on the big screens, plus there is the festival atmosphere.
Utter rubbish. Most of the cameras are stationary and hit the big corners and the straightaways. Helicopter shot or two but overhead views of racing cars is problematic--no real sense of speed. I'll agree a good director does his best to keep something vaguely interesting on the screen but the nature of the sport means huge chunks of time are simply cars zipping by the cameras.
Where we differ, I think, is that you seem to be saying that PB can't succeed on TV because it can't be presented in a way that attracts enough interest and I am suggesting that 1) I think it can be presented successfully and my argument for can be found in a mag other than PGI since our noble and esteemed editor decided enough with the XBall already (broke my heart, it did), and 2) there is fast becoming a sufficiently large group of participants, friends, families, etc. who will bring an interest with them to viewing PB on TV. Enough, in time, given the present TV landscape to make it viable in one or more forms.

I also think, as I mentioned earlier, as more money fills the PB pot TV becomes the natural outlet for growing that pot. Look at the Spike TV experiment. It exists, in essence, to reach more marginal particpants and attract new ones while associating PB generally with the shows sponsor. TV didn't choose to throw money at them cus PB was such a wonderful sport it couldn't miss--they chose to throw money at TV in order to make more money down the road. TV is in PB's future. How that will flesh out is open to debate.

I've gone ahead and banned Glen before he could cause any more trouble.

Thanks, Nick and Paul, I never thought I'd be arguing for the merits of (gulp) X-Ball.

Duff: I think weedave put up that post 'cause Glen said Dynasty was taking Effect's spot. Oh yeah, and talk about something boring- dudes riding bikes? Maybe if they carried sticks or something, then it would be cool.

Hermitt: I see your point, but I think you're discounting the appeal of a quality match of X-Ball. A game can stand on its own, it doesn't need to be sliced and diced like 7-man. Hypothetically, flipping the tv on to watch Boston Red Legion vs. Oakland Assassins play a round of NXL is a tad more viable than a show devoted to a 7-man best of three round between Dynasty and Infamous. The Dragons against the boys in yellow games are always exciting to watch, but it really, by design, wouldn't be able to make it as a stand-alone show.

Glenn: Lots of people play football in their back yards, but it's not really something you'd want to watch on tv, you're naturally going to want to watch the real thing. You don't see very many scenario game magazines on the shelves- do you? Have you seen any scenario players in a Paintball ad? Who's the Oliver Lang of the scenario scene? Why do energy drinks make your pee look like engine coolant?

Guys, if this game's so friggin' boring to watch then why are the stands always so jam-packed on Sundays? Why can't I ever get a good look at X-Ball Div I games (oh yeah, I'm short and there aren't any bleachers)? Yeah, 99.9% of the people watching through the nets are players, but they're there because it's interesting, if it wasn't they wouldn't bother leaving their beds and driving out to the field!

On point - what are you lot actually arguing about here?

is it:

1) that whole full game will get better ratings / grow the sport better than highlight shows

or

2) paintball will never make it on TV at all.

Seems as thought you lot are talking at cross purposes about a whole lot of this

At points this has become an every man for himself type of thing, so the arguements are spotty, kinda' like your facial hair.

Love you:)
