Yeah...

Not quite sure what to make of it. Guess I'll just be happy I'm not a pro so I don't have to worry about it. ;)

Even Chris's correct argument that "pro" needs to be separated at some point in the process from the rest of the players is being undercut by the PSP offering an X alternative to 10-man to non-NXL teams. Certainly at some future time a 'minor league' sorta X arrangment will help cull future NXL players but right now it only adds to the confusion and does nothing to help distinguish the meaning and ultimate purpose of X-Ball from the present system.

And while, in the same vein, I can see restricting NXL players and team names over here I wouldn't say the same for Europe--at least not at this stage.

And even so, what's to keep some of the big sponsors from organizing multiple teams under their banners to play every important event? And if some of them do, then everyone is gonna have to make the effort to regulate players, teams and movement and for the first time promotors will have a reason to do so that impacts them directly.

1. I know a lot of am and nov players who would like to try the Xball format. Is the 'minor league' Xball format just another way to make money or an honest attempt to give the players what they want? I don't know but it will be interesting to see how it works out. My two cents (1/2 a euro???) is that Xball may be too expensive paint-wise for non-sponsored teams. Just my feeling based on how much paint was used at College Xball.

2. That's exactly what I was thinking. What's to keep Bob Long from entering Super7s as Bob Long's Ironmen and NXL as the SF Intimidators? (BL used only because I can't remember both names of any other teams )

Sorry to use your patented response format Baca. I'll gladly settle any copyright infringements with a pint or two :D

Shamu, I thought you were in Orlando, dude.

Given the extra hassle involved in trying to offer a non-NXL X-ball option I'm sure in part the PSP is trying to give the players what it thinks they may want. It's also potentially beneficial to the franchises in the future. No reason it can't be both but as to the costs and just how the format will play out over a season everyone is taking some chances whatever you do this year be it X, S7 or PSP.

Quite right and is the PSP or NXL gonna have reps on site of the S7 and Mil events to eyeball players stepping onto the fields? Be pretty ironic, wouldn't it? Is that photographer working for a magazine or NXL commissioner's office?

I think we averaged somewhere between 12 and 15 cases of paint consumed per X Ball match by Draxxus's numbers. That's already on-par with or less than 10-man, and if you also factor in that I definitely did not see each team go home with a couple cases (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) of leftovers paint consumption isn't a big deal.

Also keep in mind that most of these teams will have at least some degree of paint sponsorship.

All people taping NXL games will not be traditional paintball media. They are banned from filming X-ball games.

Paint consumption was much higher than that in the non-college games.

Try banning pros from playing other leagues. I'm not sure it will work. The only pros that swear they won't play are the promoters. And we all know what their word is worth.

And? The real question is whether rook/nov/other teams are going to shoot pro-team volumes of paint or college team volumes of paint, and it's probably the latter, esp. if you look at the pre-IAO format testing that was done.

Baca - I was in Orlando ;)

Re: paint consumption...
I'm assuming that rookie/nov/other teams that play Xball will play more than one game - meaning it will be some kind of elimination or bracket format. Even if they only play three games (a low estimate), an average team is going to shoot 30 - 45 cases over the course of an Xball tournament. The college team I coached in Orlando shot at least 15 cases per game. Our high was around 18 or 19 cases in one game. Yes, we won :D

As I said in my last post, any non-paint sponsored team is going to have a tough time covering that cost. Not many rookie or nov teams that I know have that level of sponsorship, so the majority of rookie/nov teams won't be able to play Xball.

This seems to be getting away from the subject of the thread. Time to start a new thread?
