After reading a lot of these posts re the judging, it is pretty obvious some people are pretty pissed off.
I don't think as some people have suggested this is the worst reffed tourney ever, it may have been as far as their particular experiences have gone but I think it's a bit much to declare it the worst.
Shockwave and Campaign Power on fields two and three respectively did a fantastic job as did Hardcore on the RPS field.
Come to think we had no real problems at all but we didn't play fields 7 and 8, so I have no idea what was going on over there.

The problem that Niall has, or any other promoter of a great event has for that matter, is that any paintballer worth his or her salt is gonna wanna play the damn tourney.
We either get our heads round paying the judges and professionalising this aspect of our sport with this being reflected in the entrance fee or we basically have to accept the anomalous judging that will inevitably be thrown up at these events.
We can't force teams to judge - that's been tried and proved unworkable; we as paying customers are hostage to our own will to play as it seems pretty obvious to me paintballers just wanna play the game; nobody in their right mind wants to judge.

It don't take no rocket science here to work out the implications of this situation when it comes to judging consistency at events.
I don't even pretend to know which is the best way to go here but I do know one thing, these judges ain't professionals, they maybe do it once a year, twice ??
And yet we as players are so quick to accuse them for making mistakes when we as players have made many, many more mistakes on the field in that exact same tournament.
When judges get paid to do a job and after they have been trained, then we can moan like bitches every time they fack up...and rightly so..but until then..we have really only got ourselves to blame.

There was so much that was done right at Campaign. This is the first tournament I've played in so far where my ID was checked every time, including lifting up my mask for a look. On the X Ball field they also checked our clothing and paintballs as well. The IDs in the players' staging area were checked every time and you couldn't talk your way into the area, you had to have an ID. These issues are important and that the organization is on top of things.

Robbo's right that we are going to have to either move towards pro refs like NPPL S7 is doing (and somebody's gonna have to pay for it) or IMO find a way to bring more competence and consistency to the whole judging thing.

I'll agree with that!

As much as it galls me to say, I agree with Mr Robinson!:D

Having been asked to marshal at campaign ,and unfortunately a stag do came between that and several hundred bruises, Delta were quite looking forward to it. Now we are by no means the greatest marshal s in the world (although we have won marshalls of the tournnament on more than several occasions! Notably at the european indoor last year) but we would be definately up for being paid and trained properly to do this sort of showcase event, which I believe it was.

As Pete has said to bitch about the marshalls is wrong as they have got just as hard a job as the players. Who in their right mind would stand there , get shot, then have supposed "professional 'players f and blind at them because they missed 1 call out of 100?
If you think the marshalling was cack, do it yourself at a major tournament and see how your attitude changes.

One day I might even begin to understand this almost maniacal reluctance to embrace the truth or 'right thing to do' when it comes outa my gob :D

It's been quite interesting reading the comments about the reffing. Certain fields seem to be universally condemned, some have had very mixed comments, some have been (mostly) praised and a couple don't seem to have any comments at all. I would say that those who have had no adverse comments (or only a couple) should feel very good about their performance as most ballers will only say something if they have a complaint!
Regarding the others, I can't say much about half the fields as I didn't play myself this weekend and only watched one game on field 5 and none on 6, 7 & 8 (too lazy to walk round to them!). Of those I did watch I can't say I saw any particularly bad decisions, maybe the odd missed call but you're going to get that anywhere especially at the beginning of a game with 14 players on the field. I was particularly impressed with the checking of the passes especially for fields 1 & 2.
As it was a Shockwave 3 player who first posed the question I will give one small bit of feedback on the Tomahawk field. I saw one team manage to manipulate you by asking for a check on the player in the snake when they didn't seem to know exactly where he was, and by getting the check done managing to locate the players position. Not bad reffing as such, just maybe a touch naive in that one incident. But at least you went in to check the guy!
The only other comment I have on the reffing is regarding Shockwave Am on the Splatch field. Sam has been on these boards for a couple of weeks saying how they were going to show they were the best, straightest, hardest working and most unbiassed reffing team in the UK. Well guys, from what I saw I think you proved your point!:) Very tough, but fair and exceptionally hard working indeed.

The reffing on the angel field was appalling. i was behind the back coke can and the marshall was standing no more than 4 feet from me, i took a hit on the glove and before i even had chance to look down and check to see if it bounced he grabbed my arm and shouted "1-4-1" and pulled the guy from our back lay down out. at the end of the game i went up to a marshall and said can you take me to the marshall that made that decision and i asked him very politley why he had made that decision and he said it was not for discussion and to get off the field, i just stood there shocked.

What i cannot understand is that i have just read in above posts that they knew the marshalls on that field were **** and thats why they didn't allow any am a or pro games on the field. I find this disgusting as they obviously think very little of the am b or novice teams then. if the marshalls were that bad then they should of not marshalled full stop why do the pro teams get the favoritism over the others, again it's a money thing!!. very poor i'm afraid!!

Would it not be a good idea to have prizes for the best marshalling team????
The majority of the marshalls were great and workd really hard, but am afraid the Raven marshalls and Evil pigs kinda let them all down.

If we had a prize then there might be a bit more of an incentive, or if the best marshalling team was thanked on the stage at the end or sumthin
