Who pays for Pro Ref in the states?
In the PSP the promoter pays $100 per day for the player-refs and have for years. The entry fees are higher than Millennium but so are the prizes.
NPPL Super 7 are spending even more money on flying in refs from abroad, paying them AND paying American PRO refs. Their business concept seems to be "build it and they will come", even if they initially lose money.
If my information is correct both are losing/investing money.
I believe that Millennium can go a middle road with player-refs for a while longer. I have outlined my plan several times in several places but it includes the concept of paid refs and higher paid, independent head field judges, plus a substantial training program.
Yes, it would cost more for the promoters and for the teams, until more outside sponsorship comes in. Most players indicated they would be willing to pay more for better reffing in the on-going P8 poll.
