Oh dear oh dear,

It amazes me that anybody ever has the balls to actually put together an event as all you see after is lots of mostly negative comments from players and spectators alike.

This year was my first CC as a player and I have a flipping great time.

I could if I wanted also say stuff like the toilets were too far and the food could have been better but WHO CARES !

The event was ace, big thanks to the hundreds of people who made it happen and see you again next year.

NUFF SAID ?

Later

:)

Once again I thought it rocked!! Didn't have a problem with where toilets were, shoulda had running water but no biggy didn't explore running water source further, would have done if I'd been camping.
Atmosphere was wicked, again probably cos I was in amongst Xball.
Food wise didn't really have a problem, certainly no worse then any other event, that pig on a stick was funny as fcuk though!
Trade stands were cool, lots to look round.
Big shout out to Nial, Col, Joey and all the rest of the Campaign crew!

Paul.

Well what can I say, our first Campaign Cup as players and the whole team agrees that this was the best tournament paintball event of the year. If you missed it you missed out, big time.

I don't really understand why people are complaining about X-ball getting center stage, as I thought that was the point, to try a new format that may have better appeal to the general public and from what I can tell the running commentary and audience participation really helped to get the crowd interested, both paintballers and the general public. Some of my team mates are itching to have a go at X-ball now they have seen it played.

From my point of view the venue was top class, just down the road for me and easy access from the A3 and M25 for the rest of the team. Loads of parking with no long walks, corner shop, kebab shop and greasy cafe within staggering distance and loads of hotels for every budget within a short drive. Camping just round the back of the stands, with showers and changing rooms in the club house, how much easier can they make it for us to get to the games on time. The main stadium where the X-ball games were played seemed to be just about the right size, with enough room for everyone to get a good view of the match in progress.

The playing surface for 7 man was the best we have played on all season and the field layouts were very well designed, with a good deal of variation between fields, again the best layouts we have played on this year.

Could HPac have put the fill station any closer to the staging area, could the queues to fill have been any shorter, could the psi in the system have been any higher, could the HPac girls have been any nicer, I think not.

So all in all the things players want most out of a top class tournament were there, top quality air system, top quality field designs and top quality teams to play against, everything else was just a bonus.

Yes there are a few teething problems with using the new venue for the first time, but if we can use the same venue next year I am sure we will all get the chance to have some input as to how they can improve the event.

As for the rumour that the Campaign Cup may move to a date earlier in the year, I personally think that this would be a bad idea, as the event is currently a very good end of season finale for many teams and they work hard all year to get a good team in for the Cup and the chance to play a wider variety for teams than they are used to. An earlier date may be better to fit in with the international paintball scene, but the current date is better for the UK tournament teams as an end of season national event to bring the teams from the different UK regions together.

So a good event all round and see you all again next year.

7 man is both boring to play and watch in my opinion compared to x-ball. Pretty much everyone i've talked to agrees. Except Wee Dave.

Oh well,

not to say that playing and watching 7 man can't be enjoyable, but X-ball is just so much better...

We placed X-ball on the main pitch, because the best teams were playing x-ball, and people would rather watch good teams play rather than lower ranked 'less agressive' teams. Attending Millennium events isn't just about competitng, it's also about watching really good teams play, something that you wouldn't get from a local event.

There's been a few people take a dig at the event, comparing it to M25 or the PA league. Although both series are well run, this really isn't a fair comparison. The main thing is the level of teams you get to compete against, and the level of teams at the tournament. I mean when was the last time a foregin Pro team played a local event? When else are you going to see the Russian Legion play, against two of the best NXL teams?

The other thing i've noticed is a lot of complaints made by teams who don't play any other events other than Campaign Cup. None of the things you complained about were an issue for Millennium teams, because that's the way we do things in the Millennium series. X-ball is the main show, it's what the Pros play! We actually require you to set your gun up LEGALLY, and check for trigger bounce. We regulate players with a players card that is used at every event across the whole series. The judging is strict, sometimes subject to mistakes, but much better than you get at your local events. The fields are very well set up, set to a standard size of 30 m by 55 m, with the latest designs in bunkers. You get a trade show that consists of more than an easy up and some t-shirts sold out of the back of a transit van!

The nature of Campaign cup is that we're not going back to Major Stadiums like Crystal Palace. Paintballs make too much mess. Right now Esher rugby club is pretty pissed off with what we've done to their first XV pitch. Paintballs kill grass, players wear the grass out, it's just not worth the hassle. You can't hold paintball events on someone's nicely manacured rugby pitch. Crystal Palace is an anomoly, they don't play football on the main pitch, so they didn't care too much about the grass, they just replanted it. But getting a place to hold an event that isn't a grassy field, is impossible in Surrey / London, without paying a fortune for the venue and the clean up. We are litterally going to have to go onto the pitch at Esher and pick the excess paintballs up by hand! It's mad.

I worked very hard with Niall to design a tournament that i would have been happy with as a player to have participated in. Everything (bar the toilets) was exactly where i would have wanted it. Of course i'd taken on board everything that has been said, but frankly i don't see how people can be dissapointed with the event! I would have certainly have loved to play Campaign cup, to get all the Millennium Goodness without having to travel across Europe.

BTW, i'd like to point out, the toilets at Crystal Palace were further away than the toilets at Esher. It's funny how certain things are forgotten so quickly.

And the security this year was very effective, not a single gun was stolen and players passes were checked before going into the players area.

Anyhow the clean up is almost over, and we're gearing up for Malaga beach. If you're not going... well sucks to be you. I'll post up how good it is, and you'll all be wishing you were there!

Its seems to me like the CC crew are taking the critisisms to heart, please dont thats the last thing the majority of us players want.
Col, Niall and the crew......please dont misinterperet critisism with slagging off, from what I have read on this thread the majority of players thought it was well run and enjoyed themselves and just passed on how they thought it could be improved next year, dont forget you are always judged on your best tournament and so people are judging you on the Crystal Palace CC`s...........

Peace and respect to the campaign crew, we all have faith next year CC will be even better than this years :) :)

To me it sounds like the majority would have considered this a great event had the judges not let themselves and the organisers down on SOME of the fields. Your average player cares more about good calls than where he can find half a roast pig (Renick weren't there)....If the judges even on a few fields let you down, it can leave a sour taste for the players. By removing Evil Pigs white stick society judging team, the cc crew clearly tried their very best. I just hope good judging teams ask to judge next year.....the judges make or break at the end of the day...
