hey, i'm glad to hear some of you liked it. We were feeling kind of down today during clean up because of all the negative stuff written on this thread. We kept asking ourselves why...
And here's why:
First up, we do this to make money, it's a business venture. But our strategy is to run the best event possible, and make money by having tons of happy teams.
Then there's pride. We can run a bigger and better event than anyone else in England. Every year we improve on the last year. There were tons of improvement over last year, things people complained about, and we improved. Our pride in running the best event is what keeps moving the event forward.
We run this event because British paintballers diserve to have the best. When you play Campaign cup you get better judging, better fields, better teams, better trade, and better administration. We have all the resource to put on the best event, and we always do. And because you diserve the best, we will adress all the issues you raised for 2005.
We don't know where the event will be next year, it may be back at Esher, we may move it somewhere else. We'll just have to see what the state of things are.
See, you all think that we put all the effort into X-ball, but that's about the furthest from the truth. When we were laying out the setup we just said, 'EXL and Open go on the main pitch, then we spent weeks figuring out how to make the 7 man event work. The reason there was atmosphere on x-ball was because that's where the best teams are, and that's what the players wanted to see. 7 man games are just plain dull to watch, especially when played by lower division teams. You all did what we planed you would do, you played your games, and then went to watch x-ball, and from the size of the crowd, and the reaction we got from the x-ball participants, this was successfull. There's no buzz about 7 man anymore, because it's BORING! If you want to be part of the action, form an X-ball squad like Jags, Sharks, Tigers YG, Storm, etc.
It's already been stated, (and the numbers prove this) that divisional x-ball is cheaper to play vs the amount of game time you get, the games are better, more exciting, better coverage (which leads to better sponsorship) and it's what the pros play! I'd love nothing more than to have an English X-ball league... it would certainly go a long way to improve the quality of british teams, look at the teams who already participate, and how much it has raised their game.
Anyhow, i hope Nice boy and Heaven get their kit together and get out to Malaga Beach, because it will have a alot of atmosphere, see you all on the beach in a few weeks...
