I was going to suggest the hose thing myself, Baca, but you beat me to the punch.

Safety equipment has changed as markers have changed... why can't we have better masks and better barrel blocking devices? turn stuff off when off the field? It seems like paintball is really most dangerous when people fail to use available saftey procedures and equipment. If FA became the norm, would it not follow that safety equipment would keep pace?

Spectators all think we're shooting full auto anyway. It seems like preserving semi-auto because it is a carefully honed skill is akin to preserving pump guns because laning with them looks so funny- I mean is a carefully honed skill.

The fundemental problem with the long hose-to-gun thing is if you get a paint break in your hose, then you're *ahem* hosed, so don't plan on running or diving, or getting shot in the hose, or the pack for that matter.... or switching hands...

It seems relatively redundant to argue the merits of "fixing" any kind of cheat in use. If I may be severly obtuse for a moment, take a look at the current steroid debacle taking place in American sports and international Track and Field. Even with an entire battery of tests designed to maintain an "even playing field" there are both athletes and manufacturers willing to bend or break the rules to gain an edge over the competition. Now that paintball is taking it's first steps towards becoming a true sport, it is facing the same problems of every other sport. When teams need to win (for the money, to satisfy sponsers, whatever) they will look for every advantage possible, including cheating. I think FA is an easy answer to a very complex problem. In a very short sighted way it might help, but only until new ways to cheat are found.
Also, everone seems to be skipping the subject of the manufacturers that produce cheat ware. Is the money that is made more important than the ethics of sportsmanship? Maybe we should have the doctors from the steroid lab in San Fran post a reply.

man, full auto sucks.

so usually you would wanna make a move, and you would go when the guy posted is potting up maybe...(and its very rare for someone to be able to pot up and hose a lane accurately) but with full auto, all you gotta do is hold a trigger.
also how do we show off that we can shoot guns really fast.
i think full auto would take out a bad ass element of the game. makes it sorta pussy recball stylee.

yer safety is an issue with barrel socks n'stuff, but they arent hard to make better...as to safety in a game, cant be much different.
