To Dicky's credit, it is very true he doesn't/didn't buy the absolute best up front but his enthusiasm to better himself using what he has at the time is very evident and I would think that a fair amount of ballers want to do the same. A lot depends on the on what you can afford

and no Dicky, I dont have a change of a fifty ;) ;) ).:D

ok, there are ppl out there who can afford the best, but it doenst make them a good player, they prob get a higher splat rate but then their bound to if their marker has a high rof, but it doesnt make them better than you.
but

i have to say, for other equipment, its always worth saving and buying the best, gogs, pads, box. all these things give you so much more confidence in a mellee. which i believe can make you a better player.

Cheers Mike- much appreciated buddy :)

I wouldn't want anyone to be able to accuse me of hypocrisy.

What probably motivated to start the thread was seeing people waste good money on things they don't really need. Of course theres a difference between players that buy expensive kit and play better for it and those that have no hope in the first place- I can accept that.

But perhaps my advice (don't laugh) to people starting out is to work on your game and save your money rather than get expensive equipment.

If I had not overextended myself when I bought my Impy a few years ago, and gone for a spyder, tippman whatever, I would still be stuck with the lower end marker.

I have always wanted to upgrade from my first ever impy to something else (the grass is always greener) but have not had the cash to afford it.

When I bought my Impy I did not have game, and despite not being amazing my game has improved and can improve but cause I got better kit first off I was able to develop in other areas and not worry about my kit.

That's a fair point- but something I've already acknowledged.

You're missing the point. If you got game and good kit helps then congratulations. I'm saying there is a different group of people who automatically think that expensive kit makes them a good player.

I don't see any problem with players 'without game' (yeck, I hate that phrase) having all the latest, expensive gear.

If they've just started playing (or have played for ages but are just plain awful), why shouldn't they wear the most expensive spangly outfits or carry the latest super-duper marker?

It's possible to have the latest kit AND work on your game, they're not mutually exclusive.

To be honest I think more new players should buy top-end equipment. I wince everytime I see someone new to the tourny circuit arrive with a Spyder or Piranha - not because I think they're necessarily awful markers, but because I did exactly the same thing when I started playing - spent hundreds on a mediocre semi, only to discover that it wasn't as good as the advert stated....then spend hundreds more on a slightly less mediocre one, before finally stumping up the vast sums of money needed for a really top-end marker. If we can save other newbies from falling into the cheapo trap when they start, they'll thank us in the long run.

Personally I don't give a monkeys what anyone wears or plays with. It'll be a sad day when people complain that tourny players shouldn't be allowed to wear camo + use Tippmanns or that newbies shouldn't be wearing DYE-couture and using Angels.

I do dislike mouthy idiots who enjoy bragging - but my disdain for them doesn't change according to what they're wearing.

At the end of the day we're all paintballers - from rentals to Dynasty - lets not try and look for ways to carve us up into cliques. :)
