He is Swedish? Sweden is in Europe? The E in EXL stands for something?

I can understand the logic behind keeping yanks out (being a European league...of course ;p), but it seems a bit paranoid to not want to play him just because he plays for an American team.

I do not understand why everyone is so frightened of playing one NXL player, when if things go right, you are going to have to play an entire team?

I don't think Alex would have a problem with any of you playing in the NXL this season, and if you could, I know you would. Because we are ALL paintballers. And playing paintball is what we do.

Ciao.

The fact he is Swedish is irellavent. See Mark's and Nick's posts for reasons why. It may just as well have been a reference to Will Arroyo, Zach Long or Chris Lasoya for all the difference nationality makes.

It has nothing to do with keeping the yanks out, its a fact that rules have be followed. Players cannot play in the same league for 2 different teams. The end result is that the Top 4 from each league will go to the finals at the World cup. In effect we are running an 8 team Western Conference (NXL) and an 8 team Eastern Conference (EXL). Players cannot play in both.

Its not about being scared at all! If you think it is then you are being naive.

Its not about what Alex thinks, and it is a mistake to think that this is an attack on him. Magued only sees it as a personal attack because he is being prevented from doing what he wants to do. There would be no problem if Alex moved back to Europe and left the NYX camp....which is exactly what Max has decided to do.

What is it that the rules actually state?

Do you have to live in the country that you are playing for? Say in order to play for the Ton Ton you have to live in France? Or can you live anywhere in Europe to pay for any EXL team?

Tehnically these rules haven't been clubbed in yet:
______________________
2. No NXL player shall be allowed on an EXL roster and vice versa.

3. All players on a roster must be citizens of a European country or have their current residency in Europe. Passports and visas shall be available for inspection upon registration at every EXL event including the World X Ball Championship.

4. Players may be dropped from a team’s roster during the season but may not be added back again to the same team during the season.

5. Transfer of players from one EXL team to another may take place up to but no later than June 7. All rosters for Season 2004 will be locked and unchangeable thereafter.

I think that

All players on a roster must be citizens of a European country or have their current residency in Europe. Passports and visas shall be available for inspection upon registration at every EXL event including the World X Ball Championship.
Its too restrictive

It certainly couldnt be enforced in European law!!

I dont see why Americans shouldnt be allowed to play as long as they arent registered to an NXL franchise of course.

Retsricting teams along the lines of other European sports to say two non European passport holding players would be fine as this does not infringe laws that are already fully in place!!

Anyone else think the same?

The words 'restriction of practice' spring to mind...

Edit add: Slightly slower than they sprang to Mr Toye's, obviously...

Why not Sam?

We have already established that we dont mind a team playing whoever they wish as long as they abide by the rules laid down and arent in an NXL team as well.

I see no problem with it at all. I never have as long as they join for the competition and dont drift around!!

As I said - it may be that Euro administrators are within their rights to restrict the total numbers of non-europeans in their teams squads - but thats another matter.

What teams would have to be carefull about is the deadlines for tying down the team rosta.
