A Question....

I can appreciate that

But I don't think I did any of the things you suggest nor am I a wannabe anything. I simply responded to your reply to my initial post. I thought I kept the tone fairly light and I am well aware that it is difficult to avoid taking some of what I said personally (and some of it was personal but hopefully not nasty.) I generally don't post to trivial or nonsensical threads (unless I'm taking a shot at the Maestro for fun cause I know he'll take it that way) and I try to offer something constructive. (Ok, there are conspiracy threads but you just wait and see...)
If PGI wasn't already the best mag available and if you didn't care about the game and its future, frankly, I wouldn't have bothered.
I honestly had no intention of letting this turn into some back and forth, blah blah argument so if you'd like to take a couple of shots at me, feel free. I owe you a couple. :D

LOL! Now that was funny...

Just a quick thought for everyone: when things get heated or nasty on tha board, we can all just drop out or walk away for a while...all of us, that is, except Robo. Cos of who he is an' what he's about, the minute he tries to leave something or drop it he gets attacked on all sides and acussed of everything going.

Now I ain't saying that the big guy is always right, or that he doesn't sometimes act with all tha subtelty of a severely pissed off grizzly at a picnic, but tha man gets tired/bored/pissed off like evryone else and should be allowed to drop stuff if he wants to.

Baca, you know this ain't aimed at you or tyhis thread cos you got smarts - it's just a little reminder to everyone that you are dealing with a person at tha end of tha day. A big, opinionated person with an ego tha size of Eastern Europe, granted, but a person neverthaless.

peace

PS Did I get that right Pete? Will ya let my puppy go now?

As a side note, is the problem the cheating itself, or the fact that it is allowed to happen?
People do not enter the field with the intent to cheat, but they cheat because the possibility presents itself.
I'm not trying to be too critical to the guys who do the reffing at the big tourneys, Lord knows these guys bust their humps all day, just so other people can have some fun. But 99.99% of them are players first and refs a very distant second. In the end it all boils down to the quality of the reffing debate again...
We need proper refs. People who are refs and nothing else. But it will be a looooooooong time before we will have enough of those.
But I'll guarantee you, once we get people on the job who are 'pro' refs, we will see a whole lot less cheating.

Later!

Mother, is that you?
Am I some kind of fkin mug or what? I've played for 14yrs at most levels, against most teams and for about 5 or 6 different teams. I've reported over that same period... I've been on the same pitch as the best players in the world... and you know what, I aint seen anywhere near the level of cheating you lot are going on about.

But I'll tell you what I have seen. I've seen spectators and players get it into their head that summat's gone on. And by the time I'm off the pitch with my camera and back in the safe zone this has gone down in legend as the dirtiest incident, game, player, team in the world.

Fact is... you shoot at someone... it misses... they shoot you out... you swear blind you shot them first...they must have played on/wiped.

As I said earlier in the thread

Who draws the line? We do for our mag. How do we do it? If we KNOW certain players are habitual cheats, we don't do down their achievements or refuse to mention em ever, but maybe we do lessen their coverage and not blow smoke up their ass. Interesting, and something that maybe PGI needs to sit down and have a think about... i was talking to one of your colleagues and he told me that a recent poll of this site revealed over 50% of the viewers are under-16...people like you an' me are getting into a position as pball writers we ain't been in before, and maybe it's time to reasses the way we deal with certain situations.

Isn't this how people get their heads kicked in? What gives with all this callin people cheats... is this proven in court? Or is it a convenient label to hang on somone?

I'll tell you what, I get fed up of the magazine being responsible for policing paintball. If he looks good, if he plays well, if he's going to turn people on to paintball, I don't care if he'd kick his grandmother for a field goal. Get him on the cover.

It's all in your bleedin minds anyway.

Rancid I am in 100% total agreement with you. As someone who spends a lot of time on the field with many different teams trying to be inconspicuous and not noticed, so that I don't give people away of affect the game, I see a lot that they normally try to hide from Marshalls. I'm often just out of people's sight but where I can watch for a good photo opportunity.

I see a lot less cheating from 3 feet than spectators do from 30feet! How come? Well to be honest the spectators from 30ft often don't see what they think they do.

I've lost count of the number of times I've seen a ball hit a player, spray in technicolour but not leave a mark on the player! Now if you see that from the sideline you think it's a hit and then when the player instantly ducks in then comes back out clean everyone thinks he wiped. He didn't, he wasn't marked in the first place.

The player thinks it bounced, the stands think he wiped and I saw it break but not leave a mark. You'd be amazed at how often this happens.

I don't think there is as much cheating as many think. But I do think there is a lot of playing on and a lot of technology cheating going on. Those are the things I tend to notice more than people directly wiping or losing hits. It's hard to prove though.

Although saying that Nick and I watched a guy try to lose a hit on his back at Campaign... he then got shot to **** by A Rushers player so I think instant justice was done...

Also don't we need to be careful about what we accuse people of? I'm pretty sure I just had to write a huge apology for that ;) If you don't have cast iron proof guys I think you need to be a little more careful before a mod jumps on you and forces an apology. As shown before your opinion alone isn't enough to allow such accusations? Although I do think people are entitled to their opinions.

I've often wondered as a reporter on the field taking pictures wether I should comment on field issues to judges as a game progresses. I don't because It's not my place or what I was there for. That's what the judges and players are there for and I try to stay completely impartial, otherwise I shouldn't be on the field. Although I have occasionally had Field Ultimates ask me to help or my opinion of what happened when I was the closest to the action. And if a player turns to me and asks me directly if a hit broke then I will tell him.

Is nothing real or true except it's proven in court? Just plain silly.

As for a magazine being responsible (or taking some responsibility) for anything that is obviously a by-product of the editorial policy if it has one. Clearly, Pete has an agenda. The question is will the magazine support that agenda or undercut it? Right now, intentionally or otherwise it tends to undercut Pete's vision of an honorable game--at least as much as it's possible.
