If you are correct, then it looks difficult. But i am sure that a feasible way will be decided upon:)

Does anyone want to play EXL or does everyone just wanna bitch and talk about it? I think Hardcore have the best arguement, at least they seem to be genuinely interested in playing the format.

Lets not kill it before it even starts.

Al, I would keep my head down on this one if I were you mate, after all, if they uphold only 8 Euro teams being invovled and you are advocating the inclusion of Hardcore, that means one team may be forced out in any subsequent re-shuffling :)

Think about it, they can't increase the number to 10 because four English teams being invovled is gonna cause an outcry, this consequently locks it to 8.........

I would also agree that locking the series into a configuration where 3 of the teams are British and none German for the long-term is a bad idea, but as long as it can be restructured down the line, shouldn't be a major consideration right now.
Itchy, you might have a very long wait mate because if the American model is anything to go by, come end of 2004 and the franchises have been allocated and purchased, the teams are locked in with no movement in or out unless by purchase of said franchise.

If the Millennium decide to league structure the EXL and allow movement in and out, you will firstly encounter huge opposition from the franchise owners and sponsors and also movement in and out will be gradual and yearly based so you better be one patient German if EXL is your thang :)

Sure they could.

I don't see why people believe the best scores from last season should be used to pick teams in the first place anyway. The teams that will give the league the best chance at success should be chosen, as choosing anyone else does all the teams involved a disservice. Obviously doing well last season is something that should be considered, but that's not the only thing that should be considered.

Know how the NXL picked the team home cities? They got marketing research that listed the top cities in terms of market size, coupled that with paintball market size, a little bit of traditional team location, and picked cities that would make the league most MARKETABLE and teams who could pay the FRANCHISE FEE.

I'd look at what the largest 8 countries in Europe were, and make sure I had a team from each of those 8 countries. And if that meant only one team from Britain, I'd pick the most MARKETABLE team, not the team with the best score. It's easier to make a marketable team good than to make a good team marketable.

Well..

I find it extremely unlikely that the EXL would go to a franchise system without having all teams pay a franchise fee, including any current teams. The point of a franchise system is the franchisees invest themoney required to make the league profitable, and the franchise is their means of making sure that if they succeed, they get a payoff for their investment.

The EXL teams are not making that investment, someone else is. They're not going to just hand out franchises for free, effectively giving away any return on the investment that THEY, not the teams, made.

Itchy, listen to me very carefully mate, the EXL will go to franchise allocation if the league is successful.
There is absolutely nothing stopping myself / PGI as team owners buying our own franchise and thereby realising our investments and consequently earning from them.
I know Mag would buy Joy's franchise, Sergey would secure the Legion's and ya think Laurent would ignore this opportunity ?
This option is open to all EXL team members /owners, think about it !

I gotcha..

I thought you were saying that at the end of the (a?) season, the teams who played the season would get a franchise for free and anyone else would have to pony up to buy one. That's the part that didn't make sense - if all teams would be expected to pay the franchise fee, nevermind, I just misread what you were getting at.

That dog don't hunt...

I remember having a conversation at the hotel bar with Jon of Hardcore and hearing him talking about the thankless duty his team had, to perform to fulfill their Millennium obligation to ref. They were loyal to the system.

I'm not saying this against any other team, but there is no way Hardcore should be overlooked by a sudden removal of the reffing points. Many have already stated that in this thread; I just had to state my support for Hardcore here.

I think we ought to think bigger; bigger even than NXL:

Let's do a total of 16 teams.

1. Europe is substantially bigger than North America, especially if you include Russia.

2. We could have 10 Euro teams + 2 NXL + 4 other teams from a select list outside of Europe (Dynasty, Strange, Naughty Dogs, Brass Eagle, Viewloader, Avalanche, Bad Company, Bushwackers, etc.).

3. 16 teams would be a smoother number for double-elimination but would be very tight on one field (unless we cut game-time, which I recommend anyway).

I think this would make for some great competition that would also make a lot more teams happy.

Steve, if u had 16 teams in, u wouldn't see me or Mag and probably Sergey for dust.
The inclusion of an extra 8 Euro teams would make a mockery of having the 'best' teams to contest in a competitive league that encourages improvement and development.

I got an idea, we pick 8 countries that should be represented in this European league and then each country has its own national tourney to decide who goes in :)
Yeah baby :):)
