Nick, you may be right about Steve in this case but I don't think so although this is one instance where I have little trouble in putting it down to a difference of opinion between me and you.
Steve never said back then he knew anything because he didn't, but he did infer latterly that he did...if you know what I mean.

I just think he tried to score cheap points off of that coincidence but hey, who gives a flying fcuk either way .....apart from me that is :)

And the girl who guessed your age at being 26 may well not have been in ownership of a white cane or clever dog but she was wearing a white coat with both her arms strapped, had no teeth, was dribbling profusely, had thinning hair, rocking repeatedly to and fro on her chair, muttering incoherently.....all just before you tried asking her for a date... :)

1--Dude, when you talk about the ONLY impact of an infusion of players, being diluting the average skill level, that can hardly be countrued as positive or neutral - it SOUNDS like a negative effect.... so I don't buy you just meant it was neither - nor.

2--Isn't this how ALL Pro leagues in any sport got their start ?

3--And - aren't most of those sports still functioning at lower levels too ?

4--I STILL strongly believe a promotion/relegation system HAS to be a part of the EXL (and ultimately X-Ball as a whole), for the league(s) to stay connected to the lower ranks.
Nick, you must be getting tired dancing around the argument as you have yet to confront any element of it directly.
1--if you re-examine the sequence of posts you will discover I have only been responding to specific elements you cited originally. I didn't bring up the example of the infusion of new players, you did. I simply used it as an example of how what you perceived as an obvious good thing could be viewed, in the short term, as not so much. Nor is it a stand alone observation but should fairly be viewed as part of my whole argument all along.
But you're welcome to "buy" what you like. :)
2--No, but it's A way.
3--never said they weren't or that PB wouldn't in some form or other.
4--the EXL isn't connected to the lower ranks because the EXL is conceived and intended to be REAL professional PB and the lower ranks aren't.

I think the main way to stay connected to the masses, is to play the same format. Whether this means the pros should go 7 man, or the masses should start playing X is open for debate.

I see no reason for the promotion/delegation thing, even though it is the standard here in Europe. I feel that at that level of play it should be individuals instead of entire teams that aspire to achieve pro status. Makes the league a little more tidy, not having X amount of new teams each season, as well as more marketable when it comes to merchandising, should we ever get to that stage.

promotion/relegation?

has this or any part of the league structure been finalised yet? because if not we will be doing the following in 2004.....

'well having spoken to our team this weekend just gone, we have decided that unless we have an opportunity to qualify for a spot in the EXL or replacement Top level div in the MS 2005, then we are going to play in the US next season with maybe one Div 1 entry at a venue we fancy (we havnt decided between PSP or NPPL).'

i think that unless there is a promotion/relegation system for the top slots, you may find that alot of teams could end up focusing elsewhere.

'also playing in a series with 3 differing formats is not what we want, we want to play the best we can at the highest level we can, in a structured series, if this is not offered in the MS then we will take our dollars elsewhere!'

i hope that the MS board see sense and make small ammendments to ensure that the 'rest of us' have a goal to aim for, with a carrot at the end of it.

This info I received from Stephen Baldwin at the Millennium Series:

MILLENNIUM SERIES
EXL 2004 & ONWARDS

During 2004 the Millennium Series will run a Pro EXL League at 4 of its 8 event Series. This is the beginning of what is intended to be a major expansion of XBall worldwide and a massive heightening of the sports media profile.

For 2004 one Pro-League will be run which will comprise the 8 top European teams from the 2003 rankings plus two NXL teams. At the end of the series the top 4 European teams plus the top 4 teams from the NXL will play in a genuine world cup.
This is the only way that any teams can play NXL teams.

At the end of 2004 the 8 teams will automatically be offered their EXL slots for 2005 in an expanded XBall league or leagues. We will listen to the opinions of teams about how far we should expand the EXL format. From this point onwards XBall will operate on a divisional system where relegation and promotion of teams will become an annual event with all teams being positioned on their own results. There will be no locked slots for any teams, even the original eight.

Every year there will be a world cup with the top teams from all XBall leagues worldwide qualifying. How far this expansion goes is dependent on how successful the whole XBall format becomes, we have very high hopes.

I hope this is genuine, as it seems to be, and I hope it isn't old and outdated. Hope to get confirmation about a lot of things soon.

Maybe those who know more, like Robbo and Nick, can comment.

Does this mean that the decision will be made _after_ the 2004 season?

The teams who really want to play X-ball format need to know BEFORE this season what we have to play and where we have to go in order to have a chance of qualifying for next season. We need to know if it's the premiere format we need to play, if it's winning the division 1 seven man or if it's doing well in the States that qualifies to play X-ball 2005.

If the millennium series wishes to keep us playing here instead of playing x-ball in the states they need to have this information ready soon. I also want to know if there will be prizes for winning any particular format (this year there was none for pro, but 5k vouchers for Am-A) and at least an estimate on the prizes in the premier league and divisions.

PS, at the moment it's cheaper buy tickets to LA than Lisbon from Helsinki...

All you guys in here that aren't playing in the EXL should come and play in the states anyway. You guys say you want the best competition why would you have to think twice about whether or not to come here and play in the nppl or psp.
