What happens when you tell someone that you play paintball?

Best one I had was "Paintball...that's not a sport don't be stupid!" I kept trying to defend it, then they were like "don't be stupid, it couldn't be. Who would play it?"

I was talking more about it being widely accepted outside the Paintball community.
I understand the prices and accept them. The general public don't so we don't get a big following.
You play American Football, but if you wanted a game with some mates, or another team, would it cost you £100 per person?

Training for paintball doesn't have to cost that much.

And yes, I have spent more than that to be able to play in some football games...

two things gentlemen. I got into the sport through playing paintball at my local site. Me and a friend went a few times decided we liked it and thought we'd have a look on the internet and we found this lovely site - so no, no-one helped me learn about the sport. However many people helped me get into the sport and they always have had my eternal thanks.

I never said paintballers are losers, you did. I said that saying you play paintball is not impressive to anyone. Read what i wrote again and you'll realise this.

I never critiscised those players who tried harder than everyone else. You just decided to say i did. Show me where i criticise those players and ill apologise. In fact i think that those players who show the commitment to become better players are the best feature of this sport and i actively applaud you.

Ollgeeze, just because you can use a dictionary to illustrate a point does not make it true. Technically we are not a sport. Thats a fact. Until paintball is recognised in the country by the sports council as a sport we a little more than a hobby in the general publics, industry and goverments eye. And thats the truth.

The fact that you put 'loads of words' instead of quoting specifics from my post show that you actually really have no idea of what i was saying.

You did refer to paintballers as pathetic *******s (not losers, so sorry) as a generalisation, i was just pointing out that some of us arent, im not and i could name you 100 other paintballers that arent, you might be but thats your own issue
truth is we as people decide what what the dictionary meanings for words are by speaking them, F**k wasnt a word once but we used it long enough and hey presto, its in there, the government doesnt decide what a sport is by acknowledging it, thats like saying the little sandwich shop down the road doesnt sell real sandwiches because its not part of the sandwich association (yes there is one).
And i put "loads of words" because i didnt want a post that filled two screens, and i thought "loads of words" just about summed up your post aswell

Girls are not impressed by paintball. To believe they are is deluding yourself into thinking paintball is an actual sport and that you are an athlete. Your not an athlete, im not an athlete. In fact nobody is impressed by paintball. It still has the image of being played by wannabe soldiers in the woods dressed up in camo.

Guys who aren't impressed either; those who haven't tried it.
And those that have usually go, 'omg yeah I've played that, in the woods once' etc.

You try to explain that you actually haven't played in the woods for 4 years but as soon as you get to the inflatable bunkers bit you find yourself...petering...off.....and...in the end you just look like well, a bit wierd, so, I don't bother, and definitely not to other girls...
(on a climbing trip) "you look athletic, do you work out or play any other sports?"
"yeah paintball, blah blah grass pitches, inflatable bunkers, crystal palace etc etc etc"

So yeah I will in future leave it at hockey and climbing unless there is NO chance for premature escape & I will tell them everything, not just the bits that make it sound stupid (...what, like a bouncy castle??) .
