Girls are not impressed by paintball. In fact nobody is impressed by paintball.
My wife aint impressed, my sister aint impressed, and the girls at work are certainly not impressed - so i agree - it dont work.!

I also agree that 99.999999% of people i know think im some knob running around a wood on a weekend. Im actually a knob running around inflatable objects... and as Oli states, you leave it there....

So hoe did you get into Paintball Mario? Just a natural urge? no help from anyone, just picked up a marker one day and though "I'm gonna take the sport and criticise the sh*t out of it"? ;)
I agree it's about time this country pulled it's collective finger out and tried to turn paintball into a true sport, not just an "Alternative Passtime".
One of the main problems with paintball is, and probably always will be, the cost. With Rec sites anally raping punters with paint prices and tourney organisers doing the same to teams with their entry fees it's a wonder anyone bothers.
For a Sport to become really popular "Normal" people need to be able to have some interaction with it. With Football, Rugby, Tennis etc people can play for themselves without spending £100 a day, or spectate and have something to follow. We'd also need to have city-based teams for a bit of home-town-pride. National leagues with standardised rules and tournaments people can understand. ets etc.
I even find paintball confusing, your average joe wouldn't know what's going on at all.

Back on topic...
I get tired of "So you like playing soldier". Even the hardened squaddies in Iraq would have trouble against the Top teams in the world, it's just a different sport to War :D

Loads of words
That time of the month mario? paintballers arent losers, there are alot of arseholes in paintball who just do it because they think its cool admittedly but there are some of us that go training every week for the sake of improving our skills as a player.

Sport:
Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
A particular form of this activity.
An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.
An active pastime; recreation.

It's a little small minded to say tourny ball isnt a sport, just because it isnt shown on telle, it has everything every other sport does bar media coverage.

two things gentlemen. I got into the sport through playing paintball at my local site. Me and a friend went a few times decided we liked it and thought we'd have a look on the internet and we found this lovely site - so no, no-one helped me learn about the sport. However many people helped me get into the sport and they always have had my eternal thanks.

I never said paintballers are losers, you did. I said that saying you play paintball is not impressive to anyone. Read what i wrote again and you'll realise this.

I never critiscised those players who tried harder than everyone else. You just decided to say i did. Show me where i criticise those players and ill apologise. In fact i think that those players who show the commitment to become better players are the best feature of this sport and i actively applaud you.

Ollgeeze, just because you can use a dictionary to illustrate a point does not make it true. Technically we are not a sport. Thats a fact. Until paintball is recognised in the country by the sports council as a sport we a little more than a hobby in the general publics, industry and goverments eye. And thats the truth.

The fact that you put 'loads of words' instead of quoting specifics from my post show that you actually really have no idea of what i was saying.

As long as people are more than willing to fork over the money, there is no anal raping going on. If anything, you're raping yourself really. If you find the costs prohibitive, DON'T PLAY. Easy. But as long as you do pay and play, you can bitch about the cost, but it ain't stopping you, so it ain't prohibitive...

As for the rest, I agree with Mario.
I play American football. My team won the national championship just under two weeks ago for the fifth time in a row... How did we get there?
During the off season every player works on his stamina and strength. We hit the gym. A lot! During the gruelling four month season, we practice as a team three times a week, play a game each sunday and on the days we don't practice or play, we hit the gym again...

Now I ain't saying that paintball HAS to be handled in the same way, but, besides the official sports stamp from your government, it has to approached as a sport for it to be a sport.
If you really train yourself or your team AT LEAST twice a week, you may get away with saying "I play paintball the sport", anything less and it's "I play paintball the hobby".

We need to stop fooling ourselves. Only the pro teams have a schedule like that. Unless you make that kind of sacrifice, you are just engaging in a hobby. There is nothing wrong with that by the way, just be honest.
