Its a tricky one really...there are several angles to it.
Firstly...I think that the phrase, "Respect where it is due", says it all really.
If you deserve respect, then generally, it will be forth coming. This is proper "Respect", not your gansta' rap "respec'".
If you approach the subject with the idea that you should get respect and conratulations, for winning or doing well in a game "because you are girlies"...then, it is actually you...who are creating this divide. Simply standing there on the field, saying to your self:
"Come on...Cheer!? We're girls, and we won/did well/didnt fall over!"
...is simply creating an issue that may not be there at all. Then moan about the fact that they dont say anything, because you are girls.
Why congratulate you?
I personally, always congratulate a team that has beaten us, that may be with a nod of the head or actualy verbally. Like wise, if we beat a team..I would usually say something, if they hang around on the field long enough!
Some people, just dont congratulate or otherwise.
Think about it this way...there arent very many all girl Am or Pro teams about...so, suffice to say, we can assume that most all girls teams are novice and relativly unknown.
So...if you beat a team of guys, who are quite good...or well known in the area...maybe it isnt, that they are annoyed that they have been beaten by girls, but because they have been beaten by a "lesser team" or unknown team, regardless of what the players on said team have in their playing pants, if the losing team, dont like losing to "lesser teams"...then they are still not gonna like it"
And...before anyone tries to twist what I have said, tho I dont see how it is possible: "I would like it to be known, that I have no problem, with female ballers, playing them, beating them or being beaten by them, whatsoever"
So yeah...as a wiser man than me, once said..."you have to earn true respect" and as such, regardless of your sex, if respect is due, you will get it.
I dont know about the rest of you..but at most of teh domestic tourneys I have been to...even the spectators dont particularily cheer the winning team in a game...unless its in teh finals etc...
