I would categorize this as sportsmanship or simple courtesy instead of respect. In the NXL it is standard to shake hands with your opponent after a match and I assure you it is often only a formality as there are rivalries and animosities amongst the teams and while there are lots of players who like players on other teams and enjoy hanging out there are players who can barely tolerate being on the same field with certain other players. And when it comes to respect for ability they tend to be harsh critics because they have high standards even of the peeps they like.
At the end of the day the only respect that matters is yours and your teammates.

Respect is earned
Prove yourselves competent and you will earn respect
Various "Girlie's" in the UK have earned respect from other players
Even Robbo has been known to praise a female baller in his time

But how do you know it wont turn into that old catch 22 situation of holidng a door open for a lady.

1) You hold a door open and get attacked for being "an over bearing male pig"

2) You dont hold the door open and get attacked for being "a rude male (insert feminist word) pig"

Like someone said earlier, im all for equality, as long as it is just that.

Unfortunatly equaility will never happen, because of one vital and pretty damn simple fact. Males and Females are different and to treat them 100% the same would never work.

and no it wouldnt be patronising to say well done...i would just think that was well mannered [/B]

saying "well done" to your opponants after a game where you just beat thems is just as much of a formality as saying "good" luck before the game, its slightly patronising...... why wish them good luck?? you dont want them to win

the fat ladies get respect for being good players not good "female" players
