UK National League Champions 2005

Been away... just got back... wow... nice to know that I can still rattle the odd cage here and there... as dear ol' pop used to say... it's when they stop talking about you that you need to worry ;)

I see the world according to Pete Robinson hasn't changed at all... and I see you're still making claims on my behalf Pete. Very thoughtful of you, saves me the hard work of doing it myself.

I've not read through the thread yet... I'll save that particular pleasure for later, but I'm pretty sure that someone will be claiming that I said this or that and accrediting me with an assortment of anti-PGI statements... the usual run-o-the-mill stuff that I have allegedly come out with over the years.... and I'm posting on here "all the time"? when would that "all the time" be exactly?

The "saviour" of paintball though? Now that's really cool. I like that one so much I might actually start using it... maybe get a few T-shirts printed up or something... do I need to give commission on that or some kind of royalty payment?

But Pete, c'mon... seriously... I may not idolise you the way you'd like everyone to or scatter rose petals at your feet, but I do actually still credit you with a level of intelligence significantly above that of the average root vegetable... do you honestly believe that I don't listen to anyone else? Really? Because if you do believe that then I'm afraid you're in for a bit of a surprise me old china...

You could actually try talking to me yourself you know... quite a few people do from time to time. In fact as I recall our last conversation was quite civil and when I explained the concept of the PA you seemed quite amenable to the idea... or did I completely get the wrong end of the stick? Or is it that perhaps you're listening to a few other people just a bit too much these days and basing your judgements on somewhat "coloured" information?

It takes a brave man to base his judgments only on what he sees and hears second or third hand. Most people wouldn't do it for risk of looking foolish.

I actually couldn't give a flying one at a rolling do-nut whether you like me or not. Your opinion of me certainly doesn't keep me awake at night... but I do believe very strongly and passionately about what we're trying to do with the PA... and if people attack it... I'll defend it. I believe I have that right. But I certainly don't need to do that by attacking what someone else is doing. Maybe I should be though... seems to be the way things are generally done in the paintball world... what do you recommend?

Making assertions? What? That the PA is National? Well, last time I checked, by definition, it was.... That the team that won it was the best team taking part? Well that kind of speaks for itself... That we're trying to encourage more people to take up tournament paintball? So the pool of new players is bigger and top teams have a bigger pool to draw from... That we're trying to encourage teams to develop stable squads and start thinking in a more professional manner about how a successful team is run? I can't see what it is you're trying to knock down myself... or why you'd even want to. That's the bit I really don't get.

... and honestly, you really need to chill a little bit or you're going to bust a blood vessel or something.

All I've ever really said is "here's our sand-pit, if you want to come an play in you're welcome. If you don't then no big deal."

I will say one thing tho... and the Hatts and PA haters can argue this all they want, but it won't change the fact that the PA title, and divisional promotions, have been contested by some of the best and most dedicated players that the UK has to offer and to the guys who won it, it means a lot to them. So Pete, it's not me your slagging... it the boys and girls of UK paintball who've played their hearts out this season for something that matters to them even if not to you. It might pay to remember that sometime.

Very Interesting

Robbo,

I think that you have hit the nail very squarley on the head, when you pointed out that the world according to Hatts is all that matters to Hatts, and he could never really ever be wrong could he!

After all less than 12 months ago the PA claimed it was setting up shop at Rodbaston, in the heart of the country, so that the venue was accessible to all teams!

Where is it now......Ancaster.

Why have so many teams dropped out of the PA. if it's so good.

Lanark.
To be fair teams drop out of tourneys and break up all the time. Because of the closed divisions other teams can`t take the place.

The union won by the way.............

I can't even be bothered to answer the cr@p that went before this but it's nice to see you still can't stop trying to muster the sympathy vote with that last paragraph which falls nicely into place with what I said about you before....once again, the irony drips....
Damn, you really are a silly man aren't you

Oh I think I better add this in case soembody might read this and not know what I'm referring to :-

I mentioned earlier that whenever hatts is criticised he tries to deflect attention away from himself by trying to solicit sympathy from the masses by suggesting I am attacking UK Paintball.

The last paragraph above illustrates my point quite nicely for me (thanks hatts) in that he knows full well I am not attacking the players or teams, or even his league, it is his misrepresntation of the league I am criticising.

But he thinks that by bringing in the player and team and the mere mention that I am attacking them (which he knows full well I am not), he will elicit sympathy from the very same people.
It really is such a transparent and infantile strategy and the reason I mentioned he was silly, is because he's just done it again.....do'h !!!!

Oh Mr Hatton when will you learn? Its just like clockwork.....every year....here he comes again.....UK National Champions....best team in the UK....blah.....blah.......whatever.

I was toying with the idea of staying out of this thread secure in the knowledge that all logic would eventually point Hatts to the light - and the final realisation of the point Robbo is trying so hard to get across. Any promoter can claim anything they like for their league but, unless the competing teams represent the best available in the realm of the promoters claim, then any claim is always going to be rubished. Heres a fine example - lets look at Chris Pellings fine work in the south west - there isn't a paintball player with any sense that could deny that the NSPL could claim that their SW League winners are the best in the SW because he has every SW team playing.
Hatts - your claim was that the PA winners would be crowned UK National League Champions for 2005. Not PA National League Champions and clearly that is what gets people bent out of shape. Plus you then go on to make rash statements like being crowned National Champions would give affirmation to their status as the UK's top domestic team, not to mention that being able to stand up on sports TV and declare themselves National Champions will do no harm for their publicity machine and certainly not hurt their image when competing in the US.. Do you see the problem yet? I can't imagine any team standing up on 'sports TV' and claiming to be the National Champions when they know that they haven't competed with the best.
Maybe its just a deep-rooted inferiority complex coming to the surface because, lets face it, if you have the best teams in your league then you wouldn't have to big up your winners, they would do it themselves.

I throw the inserts out of magazines...

Why can't Hatts just answer the question as to why he insists on implying the winner of his tournament is the best in the country?

Although both Hatts and Robbo are guilty of a certain amount of sniping at each other, I can understand Robbo's arguement. Hatts, why not ease-off the talking down to the big-man and just counter his points clearly?

Although Robbo has been involved with paintball as long as I've been playing, it's not to say that I take his word as gospel. He could be anybody who simply puts forward an objection to what you're saying. So, Hatts, start from the top and counter his criticisms. If you do it successfully, you might even gain some credability.

Peace out

Dicky ;)

Doesn't the fact that 5 of the 7 players of the winning team are members of well- established teams that, on their own, chose to focus on bigger, better and more competitive events, completely invalidate any credability given to the PA League?

Well done Shockwave and Kellys :)
