The page I am on with regard to Nick is in wanting to clear up this cheating issue and to do it in the best way possible.
We just differ on how best to achieve it in the short term.

I will bell ya now !

I don't even know why you bother trying to paint me black, when you do it in such a transparent way.... it lacks finesse and is really rather infantile.

It's actually a little sad to see - I thought you were better than that :)

Am I to understand the company you work for prefer NOT to have rules on technology in paintball enforced by the use of technology - but rather by the subjective "feelings" of each individual ref?

- I find that a little odd.... because some people (not me ofcourse) might speculate as to the reasons for that stance :)

Anyway - To anyone out there who might be inclined to believe your comments: I do not hate refs - and most refs know that very well.... I just think (as I have said many times) that they are much too poorly trained to enforce gun rules.... and piling more gun enforcement on them without training and technology to aid them, they are fcuked...... the responsibility of which falls squarely on the shoulders of promoters.

- Do I hate promoters then? - Nope.... come to think of it, I don't really hate that much in this life - except maybe for incompetent people that has fallen assbackwards into a responsibility they were never going to handle with intelligence and dignity in the first place :)

Robbo, ya gotta give peeps a chance to change and evolve. While Herr Morriss was in Malaysia he had a little operation which, as you can see from this picture, was quite successful. :D He is much more, how shall we say it?, docile now.

The solution I suggested is workable, cheap and effective - all it takes if for the MS to decide to do it - and the problem is solved.

You'll need a knowledgable gun scrutineer
a lap top
1 of every board that wants to be legal in the Series (supplied by the manufacturer)
Wiring adaptors for every board on the market (supplied by the manufacturers)
A "code comparison programme"

My guess is the entire solution would cost the MS no more than €2,000

As for how it would work, you really only needed a clever little programme, which any half decent programmer could write, that rapidly compared the stored code on a standard board, with the one being checked.

Any mismatch, even a zero being in the wrong place, and the gun would be deemed illegal.

It would mean that any company supplying boards for high end guns, would be required to deliver a standard board to the MS and then submit the new code, every time a change was made to it.... but if they want their boards to be tournament legal, they would do so without much protest.... and if not, too bad - their guns would no longer be used at events governed by the MS rules.

The gun scrutineer would have to be someone able to read the code, so that standard code was checked before being accepted as valid and legal (which would obviously mean code would have to be submitted some time ahead of an event - something like 1 month would suffice).
How does someone get to live in your dream world Nick? And where do you find a good programmer that works for so cheap...

and how do you read code from boards when all current boards that I know of... won't let you read code from the board, apart from maybe the Race gun. But then they give out their software for free anyway...

And to do it you need everyone's 'legal' boards to compare to (EXCUSE me while I laugh so hard I split my sides and then need to have them sewn back up).

What about those companies that are always working to bring better products and update their code every month or so?

Heck, even if you get their code, how do you know it's legal? How do you know there aren't cheats in it already (which there obviously are, or will be in any code you get! because you can't tell anyway)?

Nick, if you can get that solution implemented for 2000Euro I'll pay for it out of my own pocket.

You're dreaming.

Summary of your post

You want all manufacturers to make a board where you can read a code that you don't know what it is doing, and compare it to a code that you don't even know is legal, and you want to do it with a laptop and some programme that doesn't exist written by a paintball knowledgeable electronics enginneer who works for peanuts.

Nice.

OK Nick, I decided not to let it slide after all.

How would you feel when, come Toulouse, 3 Nexus players are banned for gun cheats - just because some poorly educated ref felt like it?
I agree with the sentiment - but I think we are a far cry from having the personnel to enforce such a rule..... I WISH we weren't - but we are !
and not a single innocent player will get banned because an overeager untrained halfwit ref THINKS the player is shooting suspiciously fast.
how would you word such a rule for it to have the inteded effect - and NOT catch a lot of innocents on assumption alone?
they ref because they get a kick out of the interim power they hold.
all it takes is one bad ref, and this proposed rule will blow up in our faces.
You guys seem to have a great deal of trust in the abilities of paintball refs - I applaud you for that... but I cannot agree with the sentiment - sadly.
All these comments are from this thread alone, there are many more times you have said similar comments. This is what I based my post on. I would like to know exactly what the fxck you based yours on?

You have some good idea's, and I believe all of your intentions are good, but you stand behind guess work.
I stand behind what I know. What I know is affordable, what I know is practical, what I know is implementable. I deal only in fact. I do not have the luxury of indulging in flights of fancy. Thats your department.

Now...

Am I to understand the company you work for prefer NOT to have rules on technology in paintball enforced by the use of technology - but rather by the subjective "feelings" of each individual ref?
Your a maniac if you think thats true. In fact, if you think thats true just say so, and the debate is over, as debating with a maniac is futile. Plus, you are so far wrong its fxcking ridiculous. Unfounded.
Unbelievable.

Do I hate promoters then? - Nope.... come to think of it, I don't really hate that much in this life - except maybe for incompetent people that has fallen assbackwards into a responsibility they were never going to handle with intelligence and dignity in the first place
And your foundation for this mother of all insults is what exactly? Are you saying that there is evidence of incompetence in a position of responsibility that could relate to me? If so please clarify. If not, retract this ridiculous statement and admit you got yourself in a bit of a Tizz because I belittled you, and it stung.

As for me belittling you, I do apologise. Like I said, I believe your intentions are good, but like I also said, you can't guess your way to a solution. You need facts and you don't have many, so your argument is full of holes.

So?
