Technical peeps- if WDP can make a Sensi peizo-electric detector that can (allegedly ;) ) detect a ball falling from the feedneck into the breech, can the same technology be used to make an external widget that detects the impulse of a shot? A plastic Jubbly clip type arrangement could be used to attach to the barrel without harming the finish, and the same wireless tech that allows my bike's computer sensor to communicate with the computer could provide a hassle free link to a remote unit that the marshal can use on field. Given that a bike computer costs aboot £30, it needn't be too expensive, and any of the big firms could turn one out if they so chose.
I know it's naive to expect the companies that make money selling faster and edgier markers to spend some cash on safety equipment, but it does seem a bit wierd that whilst all playing kit can be bought with somebody's brand on it, none of the big guys seem interested in safety/control gear. It might lend some weight to the protests that "our markers aren't made to cheat, the players just use 'em that way" from the manufacturers if they started spending a little more of those R&D dollarz on making the sport safer, and letting us coordinate our chronos etc with all the other designer bling.

Especially with blue tooth type stuff, it wouldn't be hard to have designer cheats if you knew what you were doing.

Slightly off topic, but related, - My big idea i had a while ago was have a small chip in the marker that transmits data inc. the players position on the field, when they are firing, rate of fire, fps etc. All you would need for the positioning would be three timed radio beacons around the field (similar to gps, but on a smaller more accurate scale), firing could be done by sound, or movement of the gun. fps would be hard to fit in to the gun but you could check that dwell isn't ramping and that sort of thing.

I know it's a bit far fetched, but it could be done. The chips could be standard one that the organisers issue/install for events. So no designer ones. I was thinking it would be good for recording games as you would have an accurate record of what happened through out the game.

I don't expect to see this anytime soon though.:)

Sorry guys- I posted late last night and obviously didn't explain myself very clearly- the idea is that the sensors/receivers would be under the control of the marshalls at all times, attached to markers before each game and removed at the end. The only way to cheat would be to have your own transmitter emitting dodgy signals, a cheat that might well be easily detectable and would display clear ban-worthy intent to break the rules.

Not if you had a self chronoing gun, there would have to be
something that reads the fps built into it.

Any one know if someones designing a marker that can do this? ;)

What a coincidence!

Wonder if that'll be prone to manufacturing defaults when it comes out and ramp up velocity - but only if das wunderkind is
shooting it of course.

Tournament boards

If u want to participate in the Mill events and NPPL events
u need to have an official NPPL/ME Tournamentboard installed in your marker.

for let's say 100 $ u can buy such a board
70 for production and 30 for installment/servicecosts
this way the industry can make money our of it (their incentive to
take action) and we might have a more level free playing field

The boards should have set parameters and the software must be easy to check by the scrutineers and can also do service as an ID card.
whatever those parameters that should be
is up to what is deemed cheating or not by those events
if they want to cap the ROF do so

So on the field walking day anyone can have their boards installed and checked.
At each field there should also be a possibility to check the boards
any tampering with the tournament board should result in a fine and a team ban (for the event or longer)

If u want to cheat outside of the the events mentioned
u are still free to do so but with your own board.

i guess it all sounds simpler to me then it acyually is :)
