I think 3 divisions makes for broader abilities between teams, so should be interesting. Can't wait to see who opt's for which Division.
One thing I have found to be a shame is lack of any mention (thus far), of either a player body or recognition of the EPA. It maybe argued by some that the EPA was shot in the foot by Player Apathy, but let us not forget that 3 people took it upon themselves to try and sort something out, whilst trying to juggle work and team commitments. I'd have liked to see a move by the Millennium Committee to recognise the needs of players at ALL levels, as these are the lifeblood of a particular niche sporting activity. A prod from this level (although I've seen the argument to the contrary), would I think have given such a body a much needed shot in the arm.
Such a committee should have taken the fore on issues such as rule infringements, seeding (there you go Itchy, sign up if not already), and representing the interests of all teams to the Committee, not necessarily just the big 8 Franchised teams (as they now appear). The Millennium series and to some extent the MLT forum, is not the preserve of just the top few pros or group of 8. Of course these people have alot to say and valuable opinions, but the other 95% of teams playing these Major League Tournaments have as much right to pass comment on the series.
Don't get me wrong I think a Super League playing EXL is a good thing, however I see a group of 4 within the 8 already as the real showcase of Euro Talent (I maybe wrong as a year is a long time in Paintball as already a certain new Pro team has proved), this I hope will generate interest in the Sport and further promotion. By going with a group of 8 for 2004, the door on the NXL / DCP Benjamin Franklins has not been slammed, and this was a wise move to seize this Olive Branch whilst it still existed. However noble, it may be to have a Euro Only series, you've got to respect the committee for having the cojonnes of going this (possibly unpopular route) route. If paintball is ever to be a commercial sporting success, 2004 will probably prove to be a watershed in terms of how the game is played (although that's said every year
). If it looks good, plays good (by pitting pro vs. pro), and is exciting maybe we'll stand a chance of reaching out to TV bucks, although how long this opportunity lasts after 2004 is anybodies guess. That saying major Bummer for hardcore.....
