Yep, sometimes it is inevitable that, through absent-mindedness, or misorganisation, whatever, that you're going to leave your marker alone.

All it takes is a couple of minutes while you're distracted for someone who's been watching you to get away with your Gat. I've read of elaborate schemes where motorbikes have been stolen in the case of a few minutes just by working a distraction on the rider, so "Look after your gear", while being a great watchword, isn't going to cut it.

The cable lock idea is great, as is the idea of a "Lost and found" style manned cabin where you can pay for a day's reserved storage place. No ticket, you don't get your marker back until everyone else has claimed theirs and it's still there! (Can tell I used to work a cloakroom, right?) ;)

Also regarding the portability of a gear sack...all you need to do is obtain a tilt-alarm and put it in the sack with your gear, activate it when you're off to play and your bag is safe. These are easy to pick up (motorbike shops'll do 'em fairly cheap, about £40, though you can get 'em cheaper)....A bag screaming at 80db isn't going to be so convenient to carry away.

Alternatively, just use a Tippman, then no-one'll nick it :p

when i walked round a tourney last month i saw gats lying around all over the place with no1 looking over them, its just like leaving £1000 of notes lying on a table and not expecting for some1 to pick them up..

i think the best idea wud be team only staging areas - so only the team members - no guests - can go in this area - this wud be sure to cut down the thefts and even in the event that one does cos missing u only have the teams in there so u can get to the bottom of it.

It may cost a bit but all u need temp metal fencing like:

a large enuff area equally split for teams to share and a pass with your picture to get into the area

ok so this will cost money, but if the event organisers increase the entry fee by a small amount which im sure teams wud pay to make sure there gear wud be safe and the organisers wud make their money back

what do ya think?

Just got back from 'dam, and as wth all millenium series, you have your player card (photo, team ou play for, name and ID etc). You had to pass Security, to get to the players area and the marquee had fencing round like the first style in the above post. This is great, but there are a few problems. The security starts of pretty brill. If you don't have a pass you aint getting in. After a while, they get fed up of asking people though, especially with all the exasperrated looks that they get. And of course...anybody dressed up is a player...or arent they. The second problem was the fencing. It had no locks between the pieces (just like the picture) and so it was easy enough to lift out the block and walk through the fenc at the back. The amount of people that I saw doing this, simply because they couldn't be arsed to walk a bit further round the tent!! Way to go and show people how to nick stuff.

'Dam was actually very good at solving the prob lem of guards at the gate, because they rotated them, and so every couple of hours, fresh faces would be there, demanding with all the vigour that you show them ID. I think the other problem lies with people themselves. People need to be more aware...

You mean like the Motorola PA National League does already in the UK and something which the PA has done since 2003?

Superfly, it's amazing how many people say increase the entry fee by a "small amount" for this, that and the other...and the number of people who all go "yeah...I'll pay that" until it actually comes to paying it...

...interestingly the PA manages to provide security and staff at no extra cost to the players...

...but that's just us :)

say it works out £10 extra per player overall (entry fee split over 7 peeps) im sure people would pay that to have there own secure area where there £0000's of stuff will be left for the day

i may be wrong
