I read on a French forum that 2 refs were taken to hospital.

One was shot in the head a couple times.

The other one was checking a guy in the snake and once he'd finished the opposing player shot him "10 times" and some balls went under his mask.......

Is this fact or fiction?

And a question for whoever witnessed this: According to you would the same have happenned if the guy was shooting semi or was this really due to the ramping?

I'm with the Zebra.
2 sets of rules, one in print, the other verbal and not qualified until the games actually started.
Whether its fun or not (probably), whether its legal or not (nope) and whether its 'professional' or not (nuhuh) aside, you have 2 sets of rules. Whatchance would a discerning ref have anyway?

Its now a non-enforcable area and will be until someone either clarifies the rules in print, legalises the rules that people actually play to, or changes the ruling to what the printed 'rules' actually are.

I think its ridiculous, but so long as people have fun and no-one gets hurt it doesn't really matter. I wouldn't let a TV company anywhere near it though, try explaining that load of bollox....

Why not make hard head protection compulsory for reffing staff? Baseball cap or those new jt things ive seen kicking around...
10 balls in your head is sure to make the job harder..

Plus its a fact that people work better when less concerned about their safety:)

Since peepz are rightfully disgruntled because of how late the gun rules got clarified then we should start working on Season 2006 right now. Who knows? We may find a better solution by mid-season this year.

I would like to see semi again without a cap, if we could find a way to make it work. One possible way would be that manufacturers and board producers agreed to a industry-recognized tamper seal ensuring that the gun is locked from the factory in the approved mode. Since many of us refs can already recognize around 15bps then we would hear and scrutinize any players that shoot significantly faster (because shooting much faster than that in semi is physically impossible). We would continue to use ball-counting devices to guide us to cheaters. Very severe penalties would apply and (I hope) manufacturers would not dare conspire to create cheating modes. We would still have to make sure the guns weren't too bouncy.

Thinkable?

Worth considering!
As long as those same companies are putting 'additional' features on their own pro(/friends etc) teams guns unlikely though...:(

good thought but there is the possibility people could/would make cheater boards with tamper seals.
If there's a demand there will be a supply.

Sadly Steve, that will never happen.

Look at the NPPL as an example. The penalty for getting caught with a cheater gun is disqualification for the individual, and a $500 fine. Stiff penalties indeed, and yet there are still players who have cheater guns. Everyone knows who they are, yet they are rarely penalised.

As long as their are big prizes ($20,000 first place) then people, and manufacturers will always have cheater boards.

The leagues cannot afford to be too harsh on manufacturers, because they are the sponsors of the league. If the Leagues got tough, the sponsors would pull their teams out and play elsewhere, the league cannot afford to let that happen, and so they do not get tough.

I am NOT a fan of the ramping. Sure it is fun, but it takes a lot of skill out of the game. yet sadly it is the only way to lnearly evel the playing field. Having said that, there will still be players who get around it:(

Easy solution

- Would be for the Series to have a board manufactured that players are required to use.

Up the players ID fee to € 60 (€ 30 going towards the board), and then hand out boards upon registration.

- Yes... there are many guns out there, and people may THINK it is difficult to do this... but actually it is not.... we are already starting to see "one board for all guns" products out there - so it IS technically possible.

Obviously these boards should be unaccessible for alteration to the programming ;)

Never going to happen though Nick

There is outrage at the moment that players have to pay 30 Euros for a plastic card they may only use once or twice. Can you imagine the outcry if players had to pay 60 Euros for a one off event? I doubt the MS would get the teams playing one off events anymore if they did that

And some teams have contracts with their sponsors that state they are not allowed to use any boards other than their boards in their guns.

It is a problem with no solution.

Much like speeding on the roads, some people get caught, some dont. but you will never be able to police everyone all the time. people will always find a way to beat the system. As soon as a solution is suggested, a way to overcome it and cheat is invented. It will always be the case.
