Right, lets stop whinin shall we??

Yes PGI do cover the BIGGER (one reason why) and BETTER 9another reason why) tournaments from around the world for the reason of universal interest. I personally don't care where the tourneys from as long as the write up is good and the pics are great (as long as aint woodland of course, or rec). If WE take the initiative to contact the peeps at PGI, not the likes of Justin, TJ or Robbo, but local dudes that we can easily get in touch with ie. Ledz or someone like that. These dudes KNOW the guys at PGI, the photographers, the writers....whoever an can get someone down to an event if we make out that the tourneys will be worthwhile. If there aint no enthusiasm or we just hide behind these wonderful forums we aint gonna get this. By bitchin at Justin and co. we aint getting anywhere. What?? Do you all think that TJ'll turn around and say 'F'k ,these guys have a point, let's fly all the way to S****horpe to a wet and miserable tournament that has 3 x 5 man sup'air fields, we'll not bother with the one in Ghettysburg or LA'. Face it, we gotta sort this here. Take pics ourselves and do our own write up and set it in even. If it's there there is more chance of coverage.

I agree Sid, you know i don't want to argue with ya (again) dude you're my buddy (and bigger than me), Diablo cup was a superb tournament which well deserved some coverage and the indoor will no doubt be neglected too but maybe we need to think at the time 'is there anyone to report this? Can I do it?'. The indoor last year was by Nicky Truter, don't know if he was asked or what but he did the write up, period.

The Marchbrook will be good so I think maybe we should all club togetherm share the reponsibility and do it ourselves, what ya think??

Anyway, long post, made a bit of a point (I think) so lets get it on.

Oh yeah, I freakin' love paintball dudes. :D

EEeeeeeekkkkkkkk!!!!!!!! :(

Hmmm, I dunno how many times we have had this discussion and how many times we have to defend our policies of coverage and how many times we have explained the financial and common sense reasons we cover the things we do.
WE ARE AN INTERNATIONAL MAGAZINE FOR GOD'S SAKE !!!!!
And if you are soooo sure another mag will step in, this just shows your ignorance of not only matters financial, but also the total number of readers who would buy the damn thing.
I will tell you how many and there will be a direct relationship between the number of readers and the number of players at the tournaments covered in that magazine for that month.
Not enough to pay for the paper it is written on.
So please, please, please don't even bother trying to shock or frighten us into covering some parochial tournament in the back of beyond that nobody wants to hear about just to satisfy some half-assed, parochial view of paintball that some people hold.
If these people are sooo sure another mag will come in, then they should do it, and they are all more than welcome and good luck to them and I'll see ya in the bankruptcy courts within a few months !!!
I have said this once and I will say it again, if we were a top end international soccer magazine, do you honestly think we would be covering Mile End United's game against Stepney Rangers who played on Hackney Marshes ?
I have heard enough of you idiots and idiots you are because at the end of the day, all of this has been gone over before and answered and yet they choose to ignore the realities of not only the way our sport has evolved but also the realities of survival in the publishing business.
Instead of coming on here nagging like some bitch, get off your asses, and produce the magazine you say you want !!!!!
I'm sure you'll all be very happy together, you and the 7 other readers you might be able to get.
Thank God the vast majority of paintballers love the magazine for what it is,a true reflectoin of world paintball.
ALso true is the fact that the US does get a lot of coverage but hey !!!! MacSid, open your frikkin eyes, the best teams and some of the biggest tournaments all come from there.
The biggest paintball companies all hail from the US.
We also concentrate and rightly so on the European Millennium series that is innundated with Euro teams.
Paintball has become international, face up to it Sid / John, we had to or we would have gone under.
Shockwave and Ton tons had to, they are teams who want to do well and adjusted their approach accordingly and survived on the world scene, we as a magazine are no different, we want to be the best, we work had at being the best.
It's like asking Shockwave to start playing regularly in the Cleethorpes 5 man, it ain't gonna happen.
Paintball has come of age, I suggest you try and do the same.
If you guys want to get in the mag in the way you want (because this is what we are really talking about), you have two options, you can either produce your own mag or....you can do something in paintball that warrants coverage, just like Shockwave, Ton Tons, Ducklings etc do...yeah !, they got good and play great ball and do well in the Millennium.
Now if you ain't up to it, then don't bitch about your lack of covarge, train, train and train again and then play good ball and you will get the coverage.
Till then, I'd try to keeep my mouth shut lest I really do remove all doubt that I might be talking **** !

My go

Sid - we been here b4. Al Woods has got the right idea...

How many of the whiners have hired a photographer, had him take shots, sent em to Mr Big with a captions list and said 'Please feel free to use these as and when you see fit to ilustrate articles'? That way they can show their sponsors the coverage they're getting - cos if the pics are good they will get used. Why not call Mr Big today and ask him what he's looking for, what format he would like pics in etc.?

Sponsors wanna see their sponsored teams in the mag with their logo/product/sticker visible. What do you think is more valuable to your team Sid, a write up of a tourney that includes the sentence 'The Cameroonians played some great, clean ball and finished 2nd overall' or a big pic of you in action, with an Eclipse Cocker clearly on view, and a big Diablo sticker on your loader?

Tell me it ain't the picture your sponsors wanna see...

And how many times have I posted this?

And how many people have acted on it?

Self help dudes - the big boys still inundate Mr Big with pics and words; they know how to self-publicize. Sort your own **** out, don't wait for someone to do it for ya.

Peace

At the 2002 series at Nottingham last Sunday Ollie the Physio went up there specifically to see if he could do a report on the day to submit to PGI. Now AFAIK he wasn't being paid for this, and could actually have earned a fair bit of money if he'd been available to work that day, but he gave up his time to have a go.
All praise to Ollie & big hugs, now how about some of the other people that want to see more UK tournaments reported and complain at length here doing their bit & sending reports or pictures into PGI?

Yup. Ollie's doing the business. You all owe him a big thankyou. And thanks Robbo, TJ etc for answering Sid. I really didn't feel like explainig the fact the we are in this to earn a living...AGAIN.

rancid

Mother, is that you?
Sid's been with pgi from the start. I know it can seem rough that the mag has been UK-based for 10 years and then it has to change. It must be ****.

First of all, guys, consider this...

1) We sell over 20 times as many copies in USA as we do UK (and this is rising every month).
2) We have more Swedish subscribers to pgi than we have Brits!
3) We shift the same amount of copies in Australia as we do in the uk.
4) We have more subscribers in France and Germany than we do in Britain.
5) Britain only accounts for 4.5% of our overall revenue in a year.
6) pgi's market is expanding every month. By the end of the year we will be ditributed in over 60 countries.
7) Tourney players account for less than 10% of our overall readership.

Your complaints about brit coverage are totally unfounded. The Swedes and Aussies have more of a complaint than the Brits. ****in hell, by September we will have more readers in Russia than we have here.

The problem is 1) our offices are in the UK (although we are about to open another one elsewhere) & 2) we grew out of a uk-only mag. What other argument does anyone have? Seriously, how do you counter the above points?

I understand that the brits want a uk-only mag. Unfortunately, it will be impossible while pgi is here - the newsstrade wouldn't take it. Therefore there is one thing we can do to help you guys....we'll withdraw from the Brit market and let you start your own mag. Because, to be honest, the thing that's slowing us up is that the rest of the world sometimes perceives us being a brit mag. Ironic or what?

Listen, no slagging. Serious arguments and we'll listen
