In my opinion, I don't think an international governing body will work, or at least wont last, unless the powers-that-be earn from it or it serves their interest.

Money is the key to paintball. And, personally, I think that's a good thing. If the key players have their earning potential curtailed, they will move on.

It's no co-incidence that the real powers in this sport are all millionaires. And it's no co-incidnce that it is these very people that have pulled paintball out of the doldrums and into the 21st century. The more they can earn, the more paintball will advance. Limit them at your peril.

Interesting opinion. Taking the devils (angels?) advocate position however I'd say it flies in the face of evidence from other Sports that actually make a lot more money

The key to really making the big-bucks is being a proper sport sponsored from outside the P'ball industry. People will follow their wallets but Pepsi has a lot more cash than Smart Parts!

Anyway the idea here is that the "powers-that-be" should be for Paintball not for themselves

Agreed racid. In all major sports, money/sponsorship is not only key, not only critical but simply imposible to get along without. However I hope than any governing body will work with these powerful people, not soley for their own good, but for the good of the sport. Because surely what is good for the sport is good for them. An increase in popularity means an increase in sales and player numbers.

I guess where it starts to get messy is around patents of ideas. If X-Ball takes of to become the standard, who's going to be wringing there hands with glee over the royalties. Don't get me wrong. I have absolutely no problem with people making money off of Paintball. Quite the opposite.

What I hope I don't see is stuff like, a governing body is established through the hard work of some. And then Mr. Big Industry Man comes along and goes all ego trip and tries to control things because they want to be the head hancho.

Yuck. I don't like where this thread is going already. Just gimme someone to shoot...

One of tha more regular conspiracy theories in pball has it that Jerry Braun, Gino, Jeff Perlmutter, tha Smoking Man and Elvis are all deliberately trying to limit paintball's growth cos if it gets too big it'll attract too much attention and power will fall away/be wrested away by outside interests...

What Chuck Hendsch/NPPL do after Orlando will be a clear statement of intent and will act as a pointer to where things are going...

Hey I always managed it. Even got them to agree to pay for UPSU to go to Toulouse a couple of years back (but they forgot to send the deposit cheque... useless twerps)
