Robbo, don't take this the wrong way, because I fully understand your reasons for doing what your doing, but in Vegas the reasons we put out a mixed side was slightly different. With the reschedule of Vegas to clash with Campaign and our commitment to see out the EXL we had to send a couple of guys to Vegas and make up the rest with some guys from over there, (not Arsenal's second team, but much appreciated never the less.)
This was purely a logistical solution, if we could have been in two places at the same time we would have been.:)
As I said, not having a go just putting the record straight.:D ;)
Steve.
So are the Tigers putting a full 7 man team in for San Diego?;)

I'm with you here Simon. I had hoped that non of the regular Nexus players was going to play. Then we will find out how well the RL play 7-man.

Good luck anyway Russian-Nexus.

Not to sound hysterical, but I would bet Nexus makes its first final four appearance in SD. In fact, I may have to go place a bet before this becomes common knowledge around here...

Even if no Nexus players were playing, I doubt you could use this as a solid indicator to how well the RL would do in 7 man.
If Sergey were making a serious assault on the 7 man, then it would be a completely different animal than the one he is sending out to play for Nexus.
He is sending his first team I know but I still think it would be different.
I am not in any way saying he would under prepare but what I am saying is, he would undoubtedly prepare more were he putting in the RL as themselves.

The RL nailed the five man format in XBall to become what I now believe to be the best team in the world , the only thing stopping Sergey nailing the 7 man is opportunity and time.
If he gets the opportunity, whether by default or design to contest in the 7 man over the year, it is inevitable (in my opinion) he will steer the RL to supremacy over all others.

I don't think great Xball skills translate to great Super 7 skills. Have the RL players going to SD been practicing 7man alot, because last I checked you can't (legally) coach in 7man??? Sure certain Xball skills make you a better 7man player but playing xball consistently without practicing 7man will not bring you that natural instict necessary to play extremely well in 7man.

I do hope they play well but I think it's a little premature to assumed that because they play so well in xball that they will duplicate this in 7man.

Boo - think this has been mentioned before but not playing 7 man didn't exactly hinder Infamous at their first 7 man event.

And the Russians were consistant Sunday drivers before they did this whole Xball professional business which isn't going to hurt them.

I apologize... I have a life and not the time to read 8 pages worth of ramblings so bare with me.

and to robbo... How on earth did you explain this to your team? I can't imagine someone saying to me "we're replacing you for this event so we can make the cut and next year you'll have your spot back" and then myself coming back happy to play on the team with the same coach and players...

I think that one is easy.
Surely they want to play in the last 18 next year.
Surely they believe that, with the training regime they have planned they can reach a level of play to sustain and compete at this level.
Surely they understand that they will not reach this level before San Diego.
If the team were less commited (or professional) they would kick up MORE of a stink than if they were sensible and look at the big picture.
One think you can say about Nexus it's that they are organised and show a certain 'solidarity' that is very rare in paintball teams, particularly UK paintball teams. If they can accept as a team that they are not good enough to be sure a good result in San Diego then the rest is easy to agree to (in my opinion)

Ant, some people might also say that any team who hasn't even played the NPPL thus far ( 2 or 3 players for one event doesn't count) might well find it a tad more difficult when going at it for real next year.
I am confident we can hold our own as our top 7 position last year showed and it's just a matter of duplicating that form; you have yet to prove yourself Stateside.
And Ant, try to read at least some of the thread next time and you might have gleaned why we might not be 'sticking out like a sore thumb' next year.
The benefit of the doubt might have been politic mate.
Peace

Yes you are right we have yet to prove ourselves stateside, which i am praying we can do once we qualify.
And to be honest when i found out about the legion/nexus thing, i think the word JEALOUS springs to mind and if we could of done the same i have no doubt we would of.

Also thinking about it if Nexus comit fully to 7 man and 7 man training only and not like last season with two formats then sure there is no reason why you cant chalenge for a top 8 position with the players, coaching staff and sponsors you have, and i think that goes for the Tigers and Shockwave aswell.

So then good luck to all three of us, if it does turn out that we all make it in, i think it will be a giant step forward for uk paintball

peace
