Maybe a system could be figured out where teams get point for individual wins in tournament games based on the teams they play.
Goose, I'm trying to model it through in my head, and I actually think this will happen automatically as part of how the self seading thing happens.

Obviously you are also competeing against the teams you play for your position in the next event. If you take points off a team they are likely to be lower in the next event and you are likely to be higher... Isn't that perfect?

Maybe the number in each division could be a "sliding" number based on the number of teams entering. So instead of 20 teams it would be 20% etc.
Oh I like that... Let's have 3 divisions with 30%, 30% and the remainder (that 40% TJ ;) ) or would that put too many teams into a division? Maybe 4 divisions of 25% each? hmm need to work the numbers on that one to see how it all fits.

The only thing that should be looked at is something that was brought up in another thread. What about having more teams involved in the final rounds - should we now be looking at how to run a 16 team 1/4 final, a 8 team semi, then a 4 team final??
We can base the numbers in the finals on how many in a division. It's easy if we go with a set number per division, but not hard to use a sliding scale (as at the moment) if we go with percentages for each division.

P.S. Simon - I'll buy the beer (the first round at least, the rest is on you :))
Oh I see, you get the first and then I get the next 9? :) How about we meet in the WDP hospitality suite and they buy all the beers :)

Just to let you know I'm reading this and open to suggestions about how to improve the Millennium Series.

One thing is certain we need a simpler format.

Great to hear that Niall :) Maybe we should all sit down at Toulouse and have a chat about it over a beer. Goose can have his two and then we can keep going ;)

If we run a self seading set up we wouldn't need to use the complex snaking system and format to get teams to play others of varying ability around their own level. It would happen automatically and as a team progresses slowly the level they play at will also progress up. It ought to become a much simpler format for all to understand and implement.

Yes it may mean teams don't have those games where they get to play the huge pro's and cause upsets (but what sports do in their every day leagues? and is it a good thing anyway?)

But then we can do 'Cups' like they do in football which gives them that chance but keeps it seperate from the league (divisions). That's the way it works (and well) in other proffessional sports like football. I honestly think this may help us to present our sport to outside authorities also.
