Millennium Series 2003

Here'a a taster...

Four brackets...Div 4. teams won't play Div. 1 teams, but the rest will interplay. Pros get cash, Ams get vouchers for sponsored prizes, interesting new developments with ID cards and lots more. Have to wait to read tha finer points in PGI...

Sounds to me like they've made some good solid moves forward....swhould be best year yet for tha Millennium, althoug tha extent of US involvement is still open to question.

Perhaps even spending a couple of hours with there allocated refs giving them pointers as to what is actually required, (again I see some floors)
I think this is a brilliant idea and goes along with the discussion in the forum headed "Enforcing rules and unsportsmanlike conduct". This might go along way, along with the other suggestions in that thread, towards bringing consistency to judging.

Good job, Pete. Maybe you or I should take this suggestion over to that thread.

Judging points being the average of your other Series results !

I LOVE IT !

I HOPE the organisers take note of this and makes it happen !

How about it Niall - are you lurking out there ?

- It would however mean judging teams had to be comitted at the start of the season, as the last two events would otherwise see drop-out from teams that had done poorly in the first 4 events.

Steve:

The real reason Pros should only play Pros, is that it is simply not "sporting" for them to have to play anyone else.

Either it is a complete waste of time to play the lower level teams (who want's to fly halfway around the world to get 5 games that are close to walkovers ?), OR.... the team loses points to someone they are not contending with, which is actually extremely unfair.

Either way it ain't "right" !

Is it "sad" that Novice and Amateur teams don't get to play the big teams ?

OFCOURSE

But......still nothing stops them from playing Pro themselves, which would now give them 9 Pro games in every prelim round.

If they are in it for the sport, they should prefer to mix it up with their "equals" - if they are in it for the experience, play PRO !

Nick
Maybe this discussion is somewhat moot now that it seems something has already been decided. But we can still express what we think.

I think you have some good points here but I still hold to my reasoning.

Maybe some elaborate juggling can be done to make it so that pro's play mostly pro's with two or three games in the prelims against ams. Then the same thing for ams (Division 2) etc.

I am not taking the time to think it through. Someone quicker than me perhaps can say if this would be within the realm of possibility.

Again, if seeding is done properly it should be fair for everyone. Everyone faces the same circumstances.

Or?

Steve

PS. I agree that average real tourney points for a tournament judged might be a brilliant idea. As long as it doesn't take away incentive to do the much needed job.

Following a conversation I have had with Niall this morning it was made clear that the prizes for Ams will increase for the 2003 series but rather than being cash they will be vouchers for kit. For example rather than getting £2000 in cash the team would get £4000 JT voucher (just an example remember before you go quoting me!!)

Ok, and what do you think about that new rule? Think that it's a pure marketting choice. It will be a great thing for this big copanies to have their products spread over the european market. But for the Ams teams it will be a new problem to sell the products they win if it will not be one of their sponsors...

I can understand how you feel but look at it this way: The sponsors can offer more value compared with cash because they can list the retail value of the prizes at more than what it cost them. Besides, they can write off the prizes with less of a dent on their cash-flow, compared with cash. So the market value of the prizes can certainly be more than comparable cash.

The marketing companies should tend to be more generous because it is more directly associated to their marketing efforts. They would much rather see their products getting used and exposed out in the marketplace than have to give away cash that is quickly burned and forgotten.

Sure, it's a hassle if you don't want or need the products, but it usually isn't such a big problem to sell them off. At least it wasn't on the team I was on before. Most of us have contacts and know Web sites where things can be quickly sold.
