Ok, now I see where Eric is going with this.

Currently, there are people who fan a two-fingered trigger. Imagine that the trigger is changed to have five bumps down the front, instead of just the one. This would mean that it is possible to pull the trigger five times jsut by running your finger down the front of it.

In my mind, this is not skill, but it is legal.

Imagine someone fanning that same well-adjusted trigger with a marker and loader that can keep up. You really are talking in the realms of 40bps or more.

Perhaps more needs to be done to define a trigger "pull"... Perhaps the idea of minimum travel needs to be implemented to prevent something like this. This would mean that the trigger needs to move a certain distance before it fires, perhaps with the addition of a rule to ensure that it travels a certain distance back again before being ready to fire.

This would go some way towards limiting the mechanical advantage without changing things for those skilled enough to fire fast.

but the trigger is being pulled each time the marker is fired, when a finger goes over the bump it pushes the trigger back and the gaps let the trigger move back forward so the trigger is technically being pulled:) and if you do it a little wrong it doesnt work so it takes practice which I would say makes it a skill, but good luck if you can shoot acuratly while doing that.

Just need to enforce the existing rules........ if a trigger is set so short that it can be consistently fired by fanning, then it should be penalised. A physical "pull" and release is required to be legal. So a trigger that can be fired more than once by running your finger down it isn't legal.

but

coming back to the first point of the thread, couldnt limiting the firepower basically stop people bothering to do this? but then again its stops people from legitimately 'walking ' the trigger fast. hmmmm difficult area.
Basically, i just dont want the role of the front player taken out of the game because the amount of paint is virtually impossible.
what does everyone else think?
Ricky.

40 bps will make a front mans life easier.......... the back players would need to reload every 5 seconds :)
As long as hoppers stay the same size I don't think it's a problem.
I don't fire as fast as I can in a tourney......... it's a nice party trick but it doesn't really help on the field. I find 9bps is fine, I may fire a little quicker in bursts, but I can't see where 40 bps would be an advantage....... other than having a more consistent, faster cycling marker.
Like performance cars.......... you don't often use the top speed, but it's nice to have the acceleration that goes with it.
I think we dwell on BPS too much, it's an advantage, but you can only eliminate someone once.
It sounds similar to players who blame their failings on their kit.
Not me, my kit is superb, i'm still crap.

No loaders feed that fast, and nobody can pull that fast in one second using legal methods
