True, but then the NHL fights are shown as part of a whole game -if - as Fabio said - that shot is dropped into a compliation video and was from a practice day - then it's been dropped in gratuitously, and you've got to ask yourself why do that?

Most sports try to play down the violence that occurs in them rather than go out of their way to highlight an irrelevant incident.

In order :

Red=Green. Blood makes money. It's just spectacular action that serves no purpose than to get people in. Possibly to demonstrate how 'serious' or 'hardcore' players are, that they'll walk up to a guy and deck him in mid-game. It only serves to prove people like Dr. Zumbardo right, and gives them ammunition.

And most sports do downplay violence that happens. I'm watching ESPN now, they're showing baseball highlights. For the most part, if a guy gets beaned with a ball, and it makes a run happen, it's mentioned as part of the story. They don't go slow-motion into fights, it's just "what happened". And if a bench-clearing brawl happens, they mention it, not highlight it. The only exception is to mention things like beanballs that knock a player out of the game, they'll show that to show how vcious the hit is. But, for the most part, it's not the highlight they really show.

I still think paintball needs a media coach.

Oh come on, you gotta be kiddin me, talk about taking things out of context to start an argument, and a groundless one at that !
For one thing, Tyger was talking 'generally', the specific example of that vid, whether gratuitous or not is not relevant here as you well know.
Tyger was making the assumption that physical contact in paintball would somehow deter sponsors, this is a general assumption on his part not a specific one relating to that vid.
And as such, I merely bought up the point that sponsors in the US are not so put off by it as is evdient with NHL, baseball, NFL, you name it for god's sake.
And I have no seen no evdience that paintball dvd's, vids whatever, highlight violence in any form !!!!!
Nah, you gotta do better than that Duff, if you wanna cross swords this early in the morning

I agree with you, paintball does need a media coach, and it looks as though Dick Clark has stepped up to the plate on that one, but that's another story !
But please Tyger, you make it sound as though you guys try to sanitize any inappropriate physical contact; while you guys may not make it the centerpiece for the coverage, any physical indiscretions are sure highlighted during the presentation.
I have seen on many occasions over there, rerun after rerun after rerun of NHL, NFL, NBA fights, some pretty nasty ones so please do not try and tell me the networks downplay its coverage.
There is a tacit approval here from the sponsors because in the end, people like to see that sh!t, and people 'liking' anything means people pay, it's as simple as that.
I don't agree with it on many levels but let's not lose sight of reality here.
And I sure ain't advocating any form of contact in paintball as a means to an end, it sux, bad behaviour sux, I hate it but denying its appeal to some people is sticking yer head in the sand.

I would be an idiot to have made a post in this thread without watching it !!!......

.....so you think that represents the corpus of paintball's video / DVD / CD presentations?

PS Look up the word 'general' and acquaint yourslef with its meaning and then perhaps you may understand where I am coming from in all this !

I'm not actually trying to argue with you, I just find it weird that someone has dropped an unrelated tear-up into a video...the producers have obviously gone out of their way to highlight violence by putting it in the trailer for the video. There's no two ways about it - that DVD is highlighting violence.

I understand where you're coming from, I'm coming from somewhere different.

rancid

Mother, is that you?
Is this a promo thing or is it a cut from the actual dvd... maybe someone will get wise and delete it from the run copies? It's a strange decision to make.

I wonder what'd happen if we carried pics of barnies in pgi?

As for media coach - yep definately, I just wonder what concessions will have to be made?

yeah, seems strange.........the clip is like two minutes long and manages to fit in a fight..........yet I don't think I've seen one on any other vids, dvd's. Only really seen one on the field in two and a half years of tourney.
Not the image paintball puts across. Look at the Manu football match this week.......if that had been paintball, how many of those involved would be playing any time soon?
It's glossed over in most sports, at best ignored, at worst encouraged. Look at all of the clip shows.......... pushing on field fights and violence as "funny". Soccer AM love a good punch up...... play it in slow mo and everything. They think it's all over are pretty fond of a reff taking a kicking too.
I'm pretty impressed at the number of fellow ballers who find this single punch-up inappropriate. Zero-Tolerance, the only way.
We are currently having to work on the amount of swearing on field........... great, soccer players still haven't given up tw@tting each other regularly.
