2004 Dates Are Out

Some European countries (Holland included) forbid sporting events from taking place when the temperatures hit a certain level.
For the love of all that which is nice, a player of the Minnesota Vikings died last year from heat stroke, and it wasn't as hot as Madrid is at that time of year.
I hope Pedro manages to get another date, or else I feel it will be a very lonely tournament. (Visions of tumbleweed and sombreros come to mind.)

Around 48ºC last year.
It's not that hot! It's hot but not that hot!

Madrid seems like a great venue, being a capital an' all. But temp. is an issue.

Might have to play in underwear;) ;) :D

Hey, Pete kelly comes from Madrid, so if this is the venue then accomodation for me is sorted;)

It deppends on the year (probably last year was one of the hottest we had) and it deppends on the exact location, but I live in Madrid and it was really that hot last summer. Maybe it will be better next year!

That said, I for sure will try to play if any event is run in Madrid, even in August :)

Shell, if you take a quick look at where 'ClarisitaZ' comes from, you will see it's Madrid, so I am going to take note of that I think :)

1. Lack of teams, we have been doing Joy masters for the last 4 years and cant get more than 65 teams. Holding the event between Toulose and Campaign cup is a big factor and teams tend to stay home for the lack of time and money.
Speaking for the majority of English teams that played every MS event other than Sweden, the majority of teams decided not to go to Sweden because the event was not as good as the others as the fields were much smaller, and were lacking back bunkers. I did not really enjoy Sweden that much for this reason. The fields were too small (except the Xball field, but that was as big as it was due to the Xball connection).

The money thing is largely irrelavent. Most people pay a similar fee for all the millennium events, and the time difference between Sweden and Campaign was around 6 weeks, more than enough tim eot get over the cost of sweden and pay for campaign.

p.s Magued, well done in Miami:)

Magued,

Sorry! I ddn't mean the vacation thing at all seriously.

You DID say the reason for rescheduling Joy was because too few teams showed up and I understood that frustration.

I apologize.

My main concern is the success of the Millennium events and the need to NOT have a tournament in one of the hottest places in Europe during the hottest time of year. Maybe that will get fixed some other way.

I will miss having my friends and fellow PB folks see Stockholm when it is most beautiful.

You made some real good points about why Joy could be successful in February. Maybe enough teams could come to make it worthwhile. I certainly hope so!

To everyone else:

Magued's right: getting around by car is never a problem in February. All the cars are equipped with snow tires and the streets are all kept clear. If it snows, all the better, because then Stockholm gets a different kind of beauty.

It is true about the club life, and there's one more advantage: there aren't as many other tourists to compete for the interest of the girls (or guys).

And I forgot about skiing and long-distance skating. Sweden has some EXCELLENT ski resorts just a couple of hours drive north of Stockholm.

And I also didn't think about the travel discounts due to it being low-season.

So, now I'm a believer! Make your plans now to come to Stockholm for a great tournament and party!

But, damn! Forget Madrid in late July!

Yey I'm ok.:)

There was a heat wave last year, if this event does go ahead, lets hope there's a cool wave:cool:

If its gonna be Alicante, surely its just as hot, but there is the bonus of a very large beach:cool:

Alicante is in November Shell, so should be a sight cooler and much more user-friendly :)

I dont belive that the small fields are the reason, as many teams like Joy Masters beacuse of the aggressive fields.
But I think the last years in Millennium series and Nppl S7 have proved that thoose fields are prefered.

Offcourse some teams wont be happy, but thats life.
But I do belive that we would get more teams for the other reasons.
