Why oh why cannot all divisions play the same format?

Schedulewise it can be done?

preliminary games 2005, eight (8) games approx 10min/game, total 80min

x-ball, best of five, or 10min (total 20min including 2 min breaks)

five (5) teams/group -> four (4) preliminary games/team

total 80mins again...

Am I missing something here?

It is really more fun to wait 1-2 hours and play 10min actual gametime, than wait same 1-2 hours and play 2 minute fast 7-man game...

Sincerely hope that this "M7" format could be used also in lower divisions. Maybe reduced to "best of five" but still.
Other plus that MS would get from this is all those new teams that have resources to play 5-man but not 7-man. Since you can actually play that "best of five"-game with only five players.. been there, done that.

3 minutes? 3 minutes is a ridiculously long time. 90 seconds is about right - enough that it's tough to make but not so short that you should have regular trouble making it. If you need longer than 90, that's what timeouts are made for.

Even if 90 seconds is too scary, 2 minutes is an incredibly comfortable number.

Your math is a bit off. Best-of-5 is going to average about 7.5 points/match. That's 15 minutes of regulation time and 22.5 minutes of timeouts, totalling 37.5 minutes/match, or an even 40 if you can turn-around in 2.5 minutes or less. Even if you're smart about it, that's 80 minutes of prelim field time, not 40 (7-man is 40, you forgot to divide by 2 since two teams are on the field at the same time). Even if you us a more reasonable 2-minute timeout, that's still 30 minutes per match or 60 minutes in prelims, a 50% increase.

On top of increasing your prelim field time per team 50%, your semifinal+ field time goes up a lot more - you can't have rounds of 4 teams that are settled in 6 points total - if you play round-robin, you'll play about 42 points, a 7x increase. (Fortunately the M7 points are a lot closer together, but you're still looking at least a 2x increase.)

M7 means higher entry fees, or fewer than 4 prelim matches.

I disagree. With only 7 players, there will be too much to do in a short time period. The NXL found it hard to turnaround in the 2 minutes betwen games last season, but now have perfected it. 3 minutes gives enough time to turn around, and then reduce to 2 minutes when CPL teams have perfected turnarounds.

2 mins in the NXL is with the help of a support crew and a secondand maybe third squad of five. That crew will not be present in the CPL this year.

Wrong, you're talking about best of 9. Best of five means 3 won games, so maximun number of points played is 5.

Format sounds great.

This may have already been covered but I couldn't handle reading all five pages so here's my questions :

1) I presume the same gun modes will be used ? ramping to 15 once you attained 7.5 bps ?

2) Is the field layout going to be released prior the event, not just two days before but like a week or two prior ?

Thanks

Leigh

Leigh,
Same gun modes this year. The series have invested in radar guns which meashures both fps and rof!!!

The layout will be released 1 month prior in a 2D layout!

And christian is on the filed design commity so he can´t complain any more :D

Chicago, we have done 3 minutes in the Nordic Series (NES) the last year and 3 minutes for 7 men is just enough. 2 minuites means you will play short at some stage after some gun problems, overshooting etc.

In my vocabulary "best of five" means that who ever gets three (3) points first wins the game.

Or included in my post was (maybe bit hidden) max 10 minutes effective game time.

so 10min game time
max 4 breaks á 2 min (total 8min)

18-20min / game

4 games in preliminaries = 80min / team which is in my opinion very close to what it has been in eight (8) preliminary matches last year 2005.

My point: all divisions play same format, since it is possible with same amount of field time... or is it?
