When someone with as high a profile as you, within the rec community, voices the oppinion that the whole team knew, without the evidence supporting it, it DOES have a negative inpact.

And for that, you should acknowledge your responsibility.

In fact, I firmly belive a major reason people (myself included) give your oppinions the time of day in here...... is because it is believed you hold sway over a multitude of rec ballers impression of tournament ball.
You're assuming people listen to me. WDP didn't listen to me when I told them that the "Wet t-shirt" contest at the World Record game would soon become "Take of your shirt and show me your titties for an Angel." I was right. Nobody listened to me about X-Ball, I was right about that too. Ever heard of Cassandra? Old greek legend, had the ability of foresight butthe curse that nbody would believe her? Yeah.

And I'm not holding 'sway' over anyone. Go over to RSP, go onto paintball.com, go over to any oe of the MANY boards on teh web where paintball players are talking about it. I'm hardly swaying anyone into being disgusted about the whole situation, or the lack of effort from the community to fix the problme that caused this mentality to start up.

I'm just a guy who writes, I'm not a freaking messiah with followers.

I didn't notice a halo or the flat glaze in the eyes that are usually associated with messiahs and prophets when I talked with Tyger at Shatner ball...I'm thinking he's just a regular human like the rest of us.

I just hope everyone can get their heads together and figure out a way to repair the damage from Salm's horrid rotten shagging he gave the sport at World Cup

I just can't get my head round all this crap about Salm, yeah he did wrong, he got punished as did the rest of his team but this ain't no cataclysm in paintball for God's sake.

And then to talk about trying to figure out how to 'repair the damage of what Salm did'.....OH MY GOD !!!!!!

Let's get real here, there will be no great damage done except what you see some people trying to cause on these boards.
The real damage was done by not having enough toilets, by not having more than 3 refs on some 10 man fields, by not having anywhere enough bleachers and so on.............

Come on guys, this is where it's at, I ain't protecting Salm or even trying to minimise what he done but let's put it all into some kind of rational perspective.
The furore surrounding this event is more evident on this board than it is within the industry and look who's driving it.
Nah, the people who matter in this industry have adopted a reasonable and mature attitude to what went down, don't be fooled by a few self-interested parties who at every opportunity malign the pros.

The real world is out there not in the posts of some people on here.

You're right. You heard me...you're right. Amongst the hardcore NPPL players/supporters, this particular 'incident' or whatever you want to call it isn't going to damage the sport's reputation in the slightest.

What I'm worried about are the regular players out there and the potential sponsors that will hear of this mess and form opinions on it. What Salm did is just the latest and most spectacular act of insanity in what's been quite a banner year for that sort of thing.

I'm not going to sit here and prattle on about honor and all that. I hear too many people using that word, and it's all too often used by a fat, whining, middle aged rec player who's just gotten his clock cleaned by a 12 year old wearing a jersey and there's just NO WAY a 12 year old could take on and win against a player like THAT without cheating! Hence you get into the whole "All Tourney Players Cheat" mess.

What concerns me is the continued widespread perception that tournement players, in particular players at the pro level, cheat. That perception is then translated into a distinct lack of interest in supporting the sport AT ALL LEVELS by larger and richer industries than paintball's. My agenda isn't anti-tournement nor anti-pro....my agenda is pro-paintball, and that includes all of its participants. I believe that in order for the sport to climb out of the tiny, stifling niche that it's been crammed into the past 20 years, outside sponsorship and support is needed. And that's not going to happen until the players at ALL levels and types of play take some responsibility and clean up their act. That's my agenda, if you want to call it that.

Furb, I am in 100% agreement with everything you just said tho I would make one reservation, I don't believe that outside interests take as much notice of the on-field cheating as we would like to think they do !!
If they feel the sport as a whole is attractive and can make them money, then they don't give two ****s about the cheating. Anybody can quote me honour or fair play but where are those qualities in some ice hockey games I have seen on TV over there.
It's like a frikkin blood bath sometimes.
No, potential income is the prime mover in any potential backer's mind when he looks at our sport and the niceties of life, such as fair play considerations, are soon thrown overboard if the green dollar is not far behind.

I think Douglas Adams summed that up when he wrote

"when he heard the words "integrity" or "moral rectitude" he reached for his dictionary, and when he heard the chink of ready change he reached for the rule book and threw it away"

Money talks, and the nastiest players become the most sponsored because they're always in the press.

But haven't we all had this conversation about magazine pictured alleged cheats several times already.

Yeah I think you are right, Adams nailed it perfectly but I will take issue with the premise, 'nastiest players.......' !!!
The only reason the pros 'seem' to cheat more is because they are pictured more, that is all.
Start taking more pics of ams, novices or even recballers and we would see a similar degree of incidence, no argument !!
