I dunno about that....

My experience is that the captain has always been the guy who you can depend on to make sure the team has a place to sleep when you get into town.

No, at that level, that's the manager's job.
True, for many novice/am/some pro teams that would also be the captain, but in another capacity. I assume we have to consider Jeremy to be the field captain, meaning he's responsible for tactics and such, not the hotel and travel arrangements (and I happen to know that he's not the guy that organised that stuff).

OK, going along with the hypothetical team consent to the idea...what could be a motive big enough for more than one person to agree with it in this case? Easy for one person to just lose it and ignore or underestimate the consequences or to say to hell with it altogether, but two or more? I for one can't think of enough of a motive strong enough for multiple individuals to go into something like that knowing that all of them could face the penalties leveled at Salm (or perhaps what he could have gotten) and go through with it. Not that many people could just throw away that much of their lives at once, especially those guys.

And certainly not someone who's company gets such a large chunk of its money from Avalanche playing year to year. That'd be like Hugh Hefner requiring bikini tops.

Innocent until proven guilty.

Robbo is a Brit, and even he is noticing the concept :)

Look, though.
Here are the facts that we have:

1) Jeremy Salm was caught shooting Ground Zero players from the woods adjacent to the field.

2) Jeremy Salm was using a black Diablo Matrix, and in black clothing.

2) Jeremy Salm apologized to the team in at least one instance.

3) Ed Poorman, on behalf of the team, claims that they did not know that something like this would occur.

Why assume that the team did know?
I think it comes down to the longing of someone to blame this on, other than Salm.

Around here, this whole 'issue' is a joke, one big joke.

Personally, I'm going to try not to jump to conclusions about Avalanche's knowledge, or lack thereof of what Salm did.

Until I see some facts that directly support the theory of Avalanche's knowledge of the Salm incident, previous to it being an incident at all, I see no reason to begin pointing fingers at anyone other than Salm.

There's one simple reason this wasn't a conspiracy:

A conspiracy by definition invovles more than one person. While I might believe that it's slightly possible ONE person could be this stupid, I can not possibly believe that more than one person thought this idea was anything other than totally moronic.

Ok Chloe, I'll accept that for teh sake of argument, BUT...

So far, nobody has commented about what Salm had to say for himself. And nobody has commented on GZ's take on all this. I've already read the paintball.com review of this situation, (Which, if I recall correctly, is run by Greg "REDZ" Hastings and crew...) which is slanted heavily.

FYI- Paintball.com is NOT run by REDZ or GZ or any other player/industry folk. We make every attempt to stay neutral and unbiased. Red is simply a guest writer on the site. The reason no one got comments from Salm immediately after the incident is because he left the field very quickly after it occurred. The tourney site was HUGE and word didn't get out until a bit after it happened. I just thought I'd set the record straight.

Gotcha. My fault, I was told by someone that Red owned the site. Ok, my mistake.

See, I can. Risk / bennefit ratio. If the risk is low, the bennefit is high, you do it. Risk here is gettin caught, bennefit is that if you don't, your team thrives. PLUS there's plausable deniablity involved.

It's a good scam, if indeed it is one. Think about it, and play along for a moment. One guy is the goat, he knows that if he's caught it's basically over. But if he doesn't, he can insure a place in the semi-finals for his team. The bennefits are plain to see. Sponsor money. You sell more product when you win tournaments. It works for another American team, why not?

Alternatively, let's say that the entire team was clueless. Then indeed, they got shafted in this whole deal. (Not to meniton that there's a company selling protien powder using picture of their players, and I don't think they're sponsored for that...) However, I still find it hard to believe they had no idea.

I see the bennefit they could get from pulling a stunt like this, if Salm didn't get caught, the game would have stood, and they would have really gone to town in the prelims. As I understand the points, Avalanche was cruizing, yes?

I still think it's a symptom of a flawed system.
