if you dont mind, let me redefine the question a little bit. Not can women (as a whole sex) be as good as men (as a whole sex), bt rather, if a guy and girl started at the same time, had same physical strength, speed and dedication.......then who whold grow to be the better player?

Chris[SAD YG]
Chris,
I'm afraid your premise is flawed, of course you could find some women who may be stronger than some men, and also some who may be faster but this is not the point as these are anomalous and not representative of the whole.
There is no point (Within the remit of this thread) in quoting exceptions if you are endeavouring to understand gender trends and comparative capabilities. So I'm afraid your redefinition is not much more than a red herring !!!
Think again young Chris :)

having the ability to see the game in some degree of perspective is a great advantage.

Chris,
I will now hereby award you an honorary degree in 'Stating The Frikkin Obvious' :)

Dude, you can't give that award to just anybody...I thought Adam Gardner had it on a Lifetime Achievement basis?

Tha Antman tells me you have joined tha 3 ugly sisters of TechnoWorld and done a gun review for What Paintball Gear? S'true?

Tha Antman also tells me that my poster is waaaaaaay more badboy than yours, as I ain't wearing pink panties.

Peace

i didn't get to read most of the posts...

so, i apoligize if this was repeated but all i believe i really need to say is "women drivers." (<---horrible) it's not chauvanistic. it's a fact. my wife would even agree... almost every near accident we would get into, we would look at the gender of the driver and 97% of them are female...

well, i believe the same lack of confidence in women in driving can apply to paintball or in most sports (unfortunately). not saying that ALL women are bad drivers. i know two women drivers that are very aware of the area around them and are confident in adapting to any given situation whether it be a near sidswipe from a car or a drunk driver or a reckless bad driver, etc...

anyways, sorry for straying away from the subject but i think that if women can understand the "male ego," adapt to any given situation (from this male-dominated sport) and figure out how to overcome the boundaries that prevent women from succeeding, i believe women can do almost ANYTHING they put their mind to... which includes being better than not only men, but being the best... i guess this can apply to ANYBODY... is this making any sense?

then again, there are physical liabilities... but if this game is a combination of the mental and the physical, a person that uses their head that is not as physically fit as the oppositions can always outsmart a physically fit person that underestimates his opponent and plays aggressively stupid...

They don't stay in long enough

Can women be as good as men on the field? I think certainly they could be, but as Sparklie Chick pointed out very well there are many reasons why we may not see the women that could be the best on the field simply because their other interests keep them from being there. Any guy that goes out and plays for a few rookie/punter days may catch the bug and keep at it and thus bring their potential talent to the game, but a female in the same position that may be capable of becoming a similarly great player often doesn't keep themselves in the game long enough to ascend to the higher levels and refine their game to what could be recognized as being that of a top level player.

Their friends aren't there. Nothing they read talks about the game (in a positive light at any rate). They just got their nails done and don't want to break them. Their boyfriends/husbands/whatever would probably ask what they were doing all day surrounded by lots of men. (If that's an issue, they probably shouldn't be with who they're with in the first place, but oh well that's not my decision.) So the question rather than can women be as good at the sport should instead be whether we will see equally good female players as male players in the near future. We see the best guys on the field when the best girl players out there probably don't know that they are because they are off doing something else, and can only discover their potential if encouraged to stay on the field.
