I would be interested to know what extra 'sponsorship' these or other teams have attracted by changing their name.
without naming all companies involved as we havnt finalised everything yet:

we have already had good responces from a couple of paintball suppliers, including of course atmosphere and severe who we get our paint from.
we also have had a prositive responce from an american company but havnt sorted details yet as they are at the commanders cup this week......but if it all comes off we will be the first team using their products this side of the pond.
i am also putting together a package to present to none-paintball companies but we have already confirmed a deal on our custom made playing shirts with a company that normally makes ice hockey gear. And a local garage recently bought a sup air field for us to train on! (ok so our captain owns the garage but hey!)

is all looking good so far!

As a direct result of changing your name?

Paul.

hmmm, good that you get the support, but be honest, how many of those sponsers originated because you are MANCHESTER Extreme????

Which was I though the aim of the name change. Would you not have got the same level of sponserships (from the companies you mention), if you were just RDX?

Okay i think of you are getting a bit carried away with this sponsorship deal. Yes the being affiliated with a location will allow you to hunt for sponsorship within that place. The main aim was to promote Paintball to a wider auidence which is achieved by using a town/city name in the team name. What would be the reaction if somebody saw 'RDX win Paintball Association league' in a newspaper. The chances are that they will browse straight past it. Now imagine the same person browsing and seeing 'Manchester Extreme win Paintball Association league' the mancs ears will prick up and they will read it , the non-mancs will think damn manchester winning something else and might read the article. Either way thats more people that are given an insight into what tournement paintball is all about. So its all good.

Just interested is all.

I'd imagine a geographical association, which attracts sponsorship would be a longer term process. I'd support this hypothesis, but simply getting sponsorship because you represent an area is tenuous in the extreme.

In my mind London is best represented by the Tigers as the best team in this area, currently. My concern is what happens when multiple teams exist in one area or a small village team suddenly becomes the cup champions / best in the UK.

It's an interesting dynamic and I'm interested in what the swing from Paintball related support to non-industry support actually would be.

If teams want to represent an area, I think they should do this, although I think an assumption of automatic sponsorship and free balling to be long way off, until the PA Cup etc is an established media event.

It could be just as credibile that the PGI CPL will become the permier Paintball Series in the UK, it already has the backing of the Industry Leading Paintball mag, so has a ready publicity machine behind it (and many Industry tied teams may choose this path). Perhaps the UK will have a split similay to that of the NXL versus NPPL, perhaps only format will decide.

I don't like it myself - the whole geographical team name thing seems cheesy and a bit waft, on a par with team names like 'UBER_DEATH_DESTRUCTION_KILLAS!!!!!111'. :)
