Yeah that was pretty crazy, as if playing the Russian Legion on your first pro tourney wasn't nerve racking enough my mask comes off first game.... it was all good though I managed to get it on pretty quick, people were saying to me I shoulda just curled up in a ball n covered my face but all I wanted to do was get it back on and mow one of those crazy Russian machines.

God loves a tryer

I was lucky enough to be in the tower when it wall went tits up during the ton tons v joy game, and all credit to Juho & Steve, and the crew they managed to make the best what could of been a very bad situation.

Some people have come on here knocking this and that from Paris and with some justification in many areas I must agree, but remember to appreciate some of the hard work and effort some of these people put in when there backs were up against it and sometimes not of there doing.

We managed to muck in and get the games up and running again in time for an awsome final between the Legion & Joy.

And if anyone wants to know who it was honking, Mr Steve Morris & Mr Mark Carter (Lincoln Storm) must take the credits for that:)

I totally agree. Credit to Steve et al for what they managed to do. There will always be complaints about the way the EXL was run this weekend. Sadly most of the blame falls on those who have no influence in the first place. It should never have been held at that site, or on that grass. There should have been a contingency plan for everything that could have gone wrong, there obviously wasnt. Steve did a good job under dificult circumstances. Those who put him in that position should be ashamed and publically reprimanded. An apology should be forthcoming, but it wont be. The EXL teams did not get what they paid for. Will there be any monetary refunds for the EXL teams who did not get what was promised? No of course not.

I won't be able to comment very much on Camp Masters except to say that some positive things came out despite all the chaos.

We definitely went through the most intensive survival course imaginable and we still managed to have some real X Ball. Despite all, there were some incredible games and the judges did a great job of officiating especially considering the circumstances. Obviously things can only get better.

Kenneth Borg did a fantastic job as EXL ultimate with a crew of judges who had never worked together. I can't even begin to mention what all the refs had to endure. They DID manage to have substantial control of the markers and gross cheating. Especially considering the level.

Andrew Farley from USA and a field ultimate for NPPL did a brilliant job as Open X Ball ultimate. He took charge and simply oozed with soft-spoken authority. He took loads off my back.

Juho Romakkaniemi of Takeover (Finland) and Markus Åkerman of Epic Saints (Sweden) can probably be credited with keeping me from having a heart attack at Camp Masters.

After we tried everything we could to get the scoreboard working for Open X Ball, Markus and the refs worked out a system for running the games manually. Markus ran the several timers needed PLUS kept score and statistics.

Juho very quickly learned how to run the software for the old EXL scoreboard and very quickly took over that job in addition to making ref calls, hurrying the teams and keeping statitics. He literally took over. Then he took charge when the EXL scoreboard went down.

Juho also managed to train his teammate Sami in how to run the scoreboard which means that we now have trained people for the future events (Juho, Sami and Markus).

Those guys freed me up to take care of the hundreds of other problems that came up. Those are the kind of people paintball needs.

Tack så jätte mycket, Kenneth och Markus. Kiitos Juho and Sami. Thanks a lot to ALL the X Ball judges who performed marvellously under the circumstances.

Thanks to all the players and friends who encouraged me while I was in the ****.

We will have most of the best judges back for Amsterdam and will tighten up substantially on a whole list of things. There will be much more evenness and consistency. We will clamp down on out-of-control coaches screaming and trying to influence the judges. We will suspend coaches and players who verbally abuse anyone in and around the arena.

Mike Bogolub, probably the best know NXL ref and guru, will be the EXL ultimate at Amsterdam so that we can take Kenneth's expertise to the Open X Ball field (unfortunately Andrew Farley can't attend Amsterdam). We will also have a couple of more big-name judges from USA.

Things can only go uphill now and they will.

I can agree most of the points mentioined here about the EXL and open X.

Surface - poor.
Player area - poor.
Services - bad

But still there were some good things that has to be mentioned:

Judging was actually the best I've seen, especially on the EXL field with all being pro refs. And I've seen a lot... They managed to keep their heads in the situations when coaches, teams and the crowd gave a lot of pressure. Kenneth and Andrew, the head refs of X-ball were great.

Teams took it great cosidering the situation and played good paintball. Big up to the teams! It was great to watch!

We at the tower managed to keep the tournament running even we faced almost every surprising difficulty you could imagine. The Murphy's law showed it's power. STILL, all the games were played and we were almost on schuedule in the end of sunday!

Thank you Chris (scores), Mark (horn!) and of course Markus with his clocks(!) for helping me out in the last two EXL games when the scoreboard went down. (Robbo, that's why you're not getting the video from the last game...)

The best thing is that the X-ball is on it's way! I'm sure we did hit the rock bottom with this first tourney and it's for sure going to improve from this. The checklist and the list for improvement is huge for Amsterdam, but I'm sure it's going to get a lot better!

And Steve, you did everything you could to make things work! And they did work out, no matter all the unfortunate things on the way! Thank you!

Juho, the tower guy

My opinion on Paris

Most of the things is already mentioned, and i guess Steve and his crew will bring their list to Amsterdam. That said, i don`t blame them for the chaos.
I don`t think the Millenium Board will have the same faith in the organizer the next time.

The worst thing was the X-ball fields (i did`nt look at the 7-man)
When we arrived on thursday we and the other Open X-ball teams spent a couple of ours picking up rocks and a LOT of broken glass. And if you think the EXL field was bad, i can promise you, Open X was worse. Sliding on this surface was close to impossible, and it`s just luck that kept more players from getting serious injuries.
One of our players blew he`s knee bad, and is probably out for the rest of the season!

I`m not going to talk about the mess before we started playing, but big ups to the other teams that stuck together, and made us get this thing going.

Also big thanks to Andrew Farley and his reffing crew that did an exellent job.

I`m sorry we could`nt make it to the prize ceremony, but we had a plane to catch, and the extra cost for us to get a plane back on monday was riddiculous. ( And Steve, it was not us being pessimistic that made us do that decicion;) )

But that said, we asked the organizer if he could take the Open X-ball prize ceremony first, because then we could have made it. But he was SOO HELPFUL, and said " No, that is IMPOOOSIBLE!"

THANK YOU!!

Hehe.. First time on the top of the podium (at this level), and not able to be there:p

But there is no doubt in my mind, the best thing with this tournament was to play X-ball, and i believe there was some good games on the Open X-ball field too.

Hi Steve,

when we were walking the field the playing surface had rocks, pottery and some bits of broken glass bottles. We did our best to pick it all up but thats bad news :(
