Proably the best debate on here for months!

Whats funny is that they all know this and are all happy to moan about it but no-one I have spoken to seems to know a way to break the system.
No-one wanted to tell the emperor his dick was hanging out, but economic necessities may be about to force it to happen - then a lot of players are going to look back on these days as golden, 'cos team deals are going to start to disappear.

Pete, whilst i agree with 99% of what you have written there is one point that i feel a lot of people will have overlooked with regards to 'site and supplier loyalty'.

One of the reasons that sites contunially swap brands may indeed be based on price. I dont doubt that there are sites that are fickle. But something else that is an important factor when considering where to buy is paint quality.

This time of year especially, paint needs to benear perfect to go through the guns. I know of many sites that are having nightmares with paint breaking, which ultimately costs the site thousands of pounds of lost earnings in a day.

Paint quality is never consistent, as so many outside factors affect performance.

If you as a site owner have stayed loyal to a brand and the brand is inconsistent in performance, only an idiot businessman would stick with a substandard product which would cost far more in lost sales, extra wear on the equipment, and more in staff costs to clean all the guns.

If suppliers consistently supplied top quality paint, then loyalty would be a given.

Yes, it was the best article I have read in PGI for a long time, very insightful.

It basically echoed what a lot of people have felt for a while. In the UK we piss and moan too much and don't want to win enough.

There is a screenwriting analogy called 'Crap plus one' - the idea is that you should never expect to sell your work simply because it is better than the worst film out at a point in time.

How is that relevant? Well, in the UK tournament scene (or perhaps it's just a UK personality thing) it is too easy for teams to feel they are doing well becuase they are just a little better than the other teams in their division (or at least their equal).
Therefore 'crap plus one' holds back the teams' (and the individuals within) evolution - they only need to be better than the best (which in the reality of swimming with the big fish is piss poor) they compete against.
Now if those teams suddenly go up against much better teams on a continual basis they will either evolve and get better or die.
This is perhaps why there is such a disparity between international players who do NPPL/Mill only and domestic players (who do NSPL/MM/S2K/PA etc) - they just don't get enough of a kicking on a continual basis. Sure some of the great players play in those leagues but you don't get to go against Shockwave/Tigers/Nexus on a continual basis.
For those that care enough, it's like getting into an arms race - you either develop to meet the challenge or you don't - but if the challenge isn't the average UK ballers will continue to settle for 'crap plus one'

The 'rec' player at tournament scenario is relevant due to the prevalent mindset - most 'tournament' players don't want to get beat up by the best teams and would rather enjoy their day and get 'their money's worth' beating up as many teams as possible (the laughable amount of experienced UK teams in Div 3 at Campaign gives some weight to this).

Sam, this point is academic mate because if you factor this out and look at what happens when you don't have quality problems then you still get this mode of behaviors from site owners, quality of paint issues just exacerbate the root problem and not negate it.

Scutty.

You can consider the system well and truly broken for 06 mate.

:)

..oh... Sam. Dont you think the quality of the paint is on the decline due to the paint companies trying to claw back some margins?
