Wheres the income for the site owners going to come from? Instantly theyve lost the £3 to £12 per 100 paintballs... Although there'll be less costs due to not buying paint, Im still not sure many sites would go for it...

Maybe individual teams would... Our wannabe team trains in our Uni gym with reballs, maybe thats the way to go?

Far be it form to suggest any of our site owners do anything without income but it is easily appreciated if we look at the average rental as an occasoinal who pops down his local site about once every 6 monhs.
If he cultivates the sort of interest I am advocating in that customer base then he can expect a number of people to want to play walk on and as soon as that cultivation has been done, the frequency of that person playing will increase.
The site owner will not be earning the same amount per visit but if the player comes down the site once a a month instead of every six, then it doesn't take any maths genius to work out the number crunch.
He earns out of green fees and paint sales predominantly.
Also, as Nick suggested somewhere, the opening of a site retail outlet can also generate income ont he back of these conversions.
All in all, it doesn't take much to work out the asociated benefits of such a strategy but as I said before, let's not rely on these site owners, we can't, if we want results then we need to look toward the guys who have grassed Sup Air, and toward indoor sites for maybe a few months of winter time and midweek evenings.

Hi Pete,

I'm not trying to replicate a grass field. I can't offer what I don't have.

The best I can do is to make it dry underfoot, all year round, instead of the slippy mud. I've put flood lights up, with even more going up as we speak. There is air on tap etc etc. Also there is a new field arriving imminently.

I agree sliding will be very difficult on wood chip but that will be a concession that will have to be made by those that want to use it. Many skills can be practised, just not all of them.

Unfortunately , The trees are oaks and listed - I can't remove them.

The idea is to create a meeting place, where once a month where knowledge can be passed on by those who know, on to those who don't. I am trying to make what we have as good as it can be for the environment its is in. If there is somewhere more suitable in the area for the purpose then great. But there isn't yet and the one that was failed. As soon as one comes along then you can guarantee I'll support it.

There is a great advantage to having this sort of facility at a rental site like Campaign. Lots of rentals go through our gates. Our monthly walk on is fairly well attended and growing. We actively promote tourney ball as we run the Campaign Cup and its good cross promotion. If the rentals can play on Sup Air on site then hopefully they'll want to take the next step and take up the sport. Also If there are a load of guys training on site then its a perfect chance to get the newbies on the hook, and join or form new teams.

as an average player, i would happily pay £20 or thereabouts to use unlimited reballs for a day (4-6 hours), 3-4 times per month as opposed to going to shoot paint at £30 per box and only doing it twice a month.

Yea, as above, Reballs would be a great way of accellerating Brit ball internationally, as was said in PGi!

If there were a few places across the country that were indoor, had the millenuim surface and used reballs they would be amasingly popular. Ballers would be able to play much more often, and sites would be able to charge much less for a days use of the reballs and entry to the site, as apart from basic maintanance, sweeping up balls, and some martialing costs all the revenue would be profit!!

Admitidly the land, surface and reballs would be a large innitial cost, but apart from the insurance, and labour there would be vertually no other costs.

Plus the average player would be willing to pay £30 for a days reballing and as its cheaper many more tourney players would play more often and so improve!

Niall, you need to get a grass covered playing surface down there mate if it's gonna be of any help as I believe that not only is it a woodchip surface you got but also you got trees stuck in the way so it's not really gonna emulate what we will be playing on.
If we are to make this serious then the playing area has to be free from obstructions and with the ability to train sliding and diving.
I know the ideal would be an indoor full scale pitch on XL turf, but hey you can't have everything! The chippings are a foot deep on top of track matting that is on top of last years old chippings.
You can still belly in but you dont get the length of slide equivalant to grass or astro. The surface is good for cutting down the injurys and is a full size field and the few trees are more an annoyance than a hinderance. I have grass at Colchester which is a pain in Jan/Feb.

Remember who this "Academy" approach is aimed to help, we will be down running drills and probably having the odd practice day, it also gives the southern based Nexus guys somewhere to go when you are not on scheduled training.

If I didn't think the surface was good enough I wouldn't have been busting my back at the weekend helping out!
