Sorry TJ, I don't buy that get out of **** card. I think you meant it, even if a little tongue in cheek. I don't necassarily disagree either though.

I think it's fair enough if that's what you think but at least have the cahonnes to stand by what you said.

No, I think TJ's right and it aint even hard to see. If you read 'any' American based forum you can see it plain as day the attitude is completly different.
Americans 'generally' strive to be the best at any/everything they do.
Maybe it has to do with the population size, I dunno but it's certainly existant.

There are more of us and we have a winning mentality.

Americans are born to win, driven to win, from tha day they are born. It's in our culture and we push sports hard. Tha Australians do tha same.

You guys don't have the same approach. And you have a tendency to look for reasons and excuses as to why you can't do things, whereas we look at reasons why we can.

We're a young country with a can-do mentality, you're a fading power with distant memories of a glorious colonial past, and tha rot has permeated your entire society.

It's a culture thang.
Hell yes, you're driven to excell in everything and it really shows.

Just look at the average size of your arses.

Oh, nearly forgot :), there ya go, nobody offended by the gross-generalisation.

You're talking about the attitude of individuals and applying that to a whole nation. you tell people like Steve Redgrave and Martin Johnson, Bryan Robson, Bobby Moore. All legends in there chosen sport and all winners at the highest level, that they dont have a winning attitude.
Now I read this and think that you're applying the attitude of those particular individuals to the rest of the nation.

One of the problems in this country is our love of the underdog, and that whole "plucky British loser" mentality.

When Man U were beating all comers look at the hate they generated. One of the nations biggest sporting heroes is Eddie the Eagle Edwards FFS. He was rubbish. A complete loser. But he gave it his best. And what has Tim Henman actually won?

And there was suggestions that the word failure should be banned from schools, and be replaced with "deferred success", cause failure has negative connotations.

Until Britain learns to celebrate success and not losing, we'll never win anything. We might get lucky with the odd thing (eg rugby), but ultimately we'll always be happy to accept second best, because hey, we gave it a go.

;)

Your right mate, I'm trying to combat the defeatist attitude in schools. For instance, I only get the kitchen to make eight dinners, even though I've got nine in my class....... introduces a bit of competition.
It was there though, it's why we don't have stuff like dodgeball in schools.

Ain't nuttin wrong with a lil fishing Benjamin...;)

And if you think that post got me in ****, well, you need to get out more.

That said, although designed to get a response, I do happen to believe what I said. Looking at Paladin's impassioned post, which I really enjoyed reading cos tha boy has heart, is interesting...

Cricket: didn't y'all invent that? Haven't tha Aussies been whupping your ass for a lifetime? And I don't think you've won **** yet this summer as tha series ain't over.

Rugby: Didn't y'all invent that? Haven't the Antipodeans and the French been whupping your ass for decades, with tha odd notable exception?

Football: Didn't y'all invent that? Isn't it 40 years since you won anything? Anything at all?

Athletics: Didn't you just win 3 medals at the World Championships? Wow...

As for populations, then you guys have got what, 3 times that of Australia? Even more than that compared to New Zealand..didn't those gigantic megapowers Wales and Ireland finish above y'all in the last big rugby event?

No doubt there are some exceptional individuals with winning attitudes, but by and large, compared to America and Australia for starters, you attitude is poor. Hell, even in Paintball smaller countries with fewer players and resources regularly whup yo ass.

Medal table from tha world champs...you're right, only huge superpowers like, er, everyone, beat you guys...
