Only problem is, which poor sod is going to do all the paperwork?

John Stuart Mill.

Sorry, I mean Hotpoint...
I have plenty of my own paperwork already thanks. Unfortunately I have a real job as well as my occasional UKPSF work :(

And if I've been overdoing the Mill a quote from another political theorist "From each according to their ability to each according to their need "

Perhaps somebody else has the ability and would like to volunteer? :p

I would happily donate time out each week to do this for wich ever organisation would govern it.
And you can quote me on that.:)

The trouble with some air guns available at the moment is that it's actually very (VERY) easy to convert them to shoot live ammo...

The idea of someone putting a shotgun shell through a paint gun amuses me...

A shot gun blast in a thin ally breach :) Darwin award winner right there! You'd have more success giving it to your 'target' and asking them to shoot you :)

These issues we have at the moment are just one more on the set of reasons why I would like to fight to have paintball markers as sports equipment and not as any form of weapon be it air weapon or fire arm. I've had that 'subtle' discussion here before ;) and my reasoning was for this very eventuality. :(

We need to be classified seperately and have that within the recognised guidelines.

This is true and what better way to do this then voluntarily register as a lesiure/sports equipment as a pre emptive strike.

So the day they come and say these all need to be registered. They already are BUT as sports equipment.

Lets face golf clubs can be dangerous also darts but they're not classed as an offensive weapon, if you carry them about.

Should we voluntarily register as paintballers? An carry ID to say we own a Paintball marker?
Would voluntary registration show that we are prepared to be responsible and conform to a set of rules which most of us abide by any way?
What would happen to us if we had to have a license to own a marker?

Personally I feel the first two are a good idea.
I would like to know the answer to the third:)
And while we're at let's carry ID and register everything else that might be of concern to somebody. I've a drawer full of knives in the kitchen and a hammer and saw in the garage. Oh, and razor blades in the bathroom.
And c'mon, if you're really serious everybody who drinks alcohol needs to be registered as a possible danger. Lots more people die and cause injury and damage due to alcohol abuse than harm people with weapons of any sort.
Perhaps the odd checkpoint where people could be checked to make sure they are in compliance.

Manike's the only one so far who has offered a sensible solution while the rest of you queue up to prove how harmless you are.

Hotpoint--juxtaposition of your quote and "voluntary" is a huge hoot. Thanks for the laugh.

If it came down to it I'd prefer registration to ban! Thats all I'm saying!

I understand and agree with the principal of what you are saying Baco.

But unfortunately you are looking at it from the USA mind set and not the pathetic knee jerk reaction of the UK goverment and control groups who just don't have a clue :(

Here, we almost need to work on prevention and "what if's" to be safe, because when the knee jerk comes it's too late and enforced without any sense or thought or time to stop it :(

I ****ing hate the government and reactionist knee jerk groups in this country. We lose more and more freedoms all the time and we protect the ****ing idiots who I believe should just be subjected to Darwin's theory of evolution...

/me calms down ;)

Just think of it as testing out your sense of irony. You must have been spending a lot of time hanging out with us Europeans to get that one :p If we're talking irony by the way how about the fact that your new hard-line moderation seems a bit distant from your professed anti-authoritarian beliefs ;)

Anyhow returning to topic, registration may be a necessary evil in that we may need something to placate our extremely illiberal government

As for Manikes idea about reclassification as sporting goods that would be great but they'd have to completely amend the relevant sections of the Firearms Acts to get away with it :(

Why? I don't think the fire arms act is actually talking about paintball markers anyway ;) They are talking about weapons with lethal capability at over 1ftlbs... we don't use weapons we use sports equipment that isn't lethal (if ever) but not until over 20ftlbs (by their own calcs...)

Doesn't sound to me like we should be in the same classification :D ;)

Do they specifically mention paintball markers anywhere?
