Actually I was alluding to an interview with Warren Beatty during a presidential campaign when he was running against Bill Clinton. I think he said almost exactly those words when asked about Clinton's "puff" and honesty about such things.

(Got outta that one.)

It just occurred to me that I've been theoretically discussing the issue of wakky-tabakky and alcohol abuse while judging without referring to the main point of the thread, which is Tontons.

I must confess that I have no idea whether or not the allegations of Tontons Flingueurs and/or Tontons Acyd smoking spliffs while reffing are true. I heard from a couple of different friends that Acyd were doing it but I didn't witness it myself.

I helped judge several games with Tontons Flingueurs and was with them in the judges' tent and didn't see them abuse substances (except tobacco). They also did a good job of judging while I was with them and I saw nothing to indicate favoritism or incompetence.

I also must say, and it doesn't have anything to do with the recent discussions, that there are some really cool guys on Tontons and world-class paintball players. They do not deserve all the French-bashing they got and still get, IMO. And, believe me, they see and hear it and they feel it too.

If any team is guilty of such things we're talking about here, get some unbiased witnesses, have some of the officials have a look at them, get photos, get videos, get evidence and then do something about it.

I know it is easier said than done.

Why not have a body to judge the judges? 1-3 people that go around at the event and check that the judges are doing their job inline with the expectations of the board. No need for evidence, if these people were to witness it, it happened.....

Or is this kinda thing already in place?

Last time I heard Moose, he didn't seem to think he was being listened to or respected...

Hmmm....

So - whenever they are called to a field, all they can do is say "tough luck - **** happens - I can't do anything about it".
but what schould they do? they can not change the decision, the marshal made some minutes before.

it's like in football (soccer for the ohters ;o): if the marshall/judge/whatever sais it is a goal, then it is a goal. and if you can see in tv later, that the ball did not cross (like the rulebook sais) then it is still a goal!

hope you understand, what i mean ;o)

On other threads and in other ways I have been pushing for head field referees who are independent and act as supervisors and instructors for the judges on each field. These field bosses should keep records of the performance of the refs and would have the power to fire refs or reduce points in the event of incompetence, bias or substance abuse. Along with this, Millennium should split the teams that are reffing for series points into at least two groups.

IMHO.

Power of Utlimates

You'd like them to be able to sanction the referees - if you're doing a crap job, the ultimate can cut your pay, take away series points, or just make sure you're never used as an official again. Something along those lines.
